The Opportunity:

WSP Golderis seeking an experienced Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Prairies & North Geotechnical Engineering & Laboratory Group in WSP Golder Saskatoon office on a full-time basis. The roles and responsibilities will entail a combination of technical work and involvement in developing our geotechnical engineering business including proposal writing, and client development.

A day in the life:

  • Participate in and promote a safety-first culture;
  • Plan a wide variety of geotechnical and mine waste management projects, including field investigation, laboratory testing and interpretation; design and construction; geotechnical analysis; and dam safety inspections and reviews;
  • Organize geotechnical investigations and laboratory testing to characterize a range of geotechnical and hydraulic properties including basic index properties, consolidation, shear strength, and hydraulic properties of soil and tailings;
  • Scope, direct, and review geotechnical analyses with a focus on soil mechanics including slope stability, settlement/consolidation, saturated/unsaturated seepage analysis, and liquefaction assessment for soil and tailings. Experience with tailings management would also be an asset;
  • Manage small projects according to client-approved scopes of work, and deliver high quality reports on time and within budget under the supervision of senior engineers;
  • Support technical proposals and design work packages in response to client needs, under the supervision of senior engineers;
  • Delegate work to junior engineers.

We’d love to hear from you if you have ...

  • 4 to 10 years of relevant (post-degree) experience working in a consulting engineering or mining industry environment;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering, Master’s Degree in geotechnical engineering preferred;
  • Currently registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer;
  • Strong technical writing, interpersonal communication, and emotional intelligence;
  • Be able to work in diverse teams;
  • Project management skills;
  • Sound knowledge in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering;
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve;
  • Ability to effectively delegate work and lead small project team;
  • Commitment to safe work practices for yourself and your colleagues.
