Position Summary

Reporting to the Aquatics Program Coordinator, the Instructor/Guard is a dynamic individual who possesses enthusiasm and experience to ensure the ongoing safety of our patrons, and to provide professional instruction in a variety of aquatic activities at Harbour Pool.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain minimum qualifications (Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Standard First Aid/AEC, and National Lifeguard) – a copy of all current awards must accompany application.
  • Lifeguard, instruct and perform maintenance tasks as required.
  • Prevent injuries by providing public education, enforcing safety rules and regulations, and responding appropriately in the event of an emergency.
  • Ensure that aquatics center is clean and safe by completing required maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain a positive work attitude, creating a professional and positive image when dealing with the public.
  • Ability to organize, set priorities and complete multiple tasks, while being adaptable to last minute changes.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to team and patrons.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions throughout the year.
  • Assist with various other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must be available to work varying morning, mid-day, evening and weekend shifts. Shifts that are needing to be filled, but are not limited to: Daytime Lessons Monday-Friday (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or 5:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.), Evening Lessons Monday-Friday (4:00 – 10:45 p.m.), Saturday-Sunday (8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or 1:00 – 10:00 p.m.). Preference will be given to candidates with open availability.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required upon hire.

Hours of Work: The number of hours of work per week may vary and cannot be forecasted. Varying day, evening and weekend shifts.
