Deco Automotive, a Division of Magna International is located in Rexdale and Brampton, Ontario is an automotive parts manufacturing facility that produces structural automotive components for Original Equipment Manufacturers (“OEM”) including BMW, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, and Toyota/Lexus. Deco Automotives’ capabilities include; Stamping, Hydroforming, CNC Machining, E Coating, Steel and Aluminum Weld Assembly. We are certified in ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 14001.
Role Summary
To ensure Deco’s Health, Safety and Environmental programs are in accordance with government legislation and Magna protocols. Key Responsibilities
  • Assumes full Heath and Safety responsibility and representation
  • Coordinates the Health, Safety, and Environmental programs of Deco to ensure associate safety and satisfaction, as well as Deco’s compliance with legal and other requirements
  • Ensures the Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements are established, implemented and maintained in accordance with ISO14001. Report performance of the EMS to senior management
  • Responsible for compliance with TS16949 and ISO14001 documented systems and authority to initiate appropriate action to prevent nonconformity
  • Implement Health & Safety program to prevent workplace accidents and injuries
  • Establish and maintain documented policies, procedure and safety work instructions. Review annually and update as required
  • Accountable for successful conformance on all audits and inspections
  • Monitor workers’ compensation claims to minimize expense, actively manage cases for expedient return to work
  • Manage the Short Term Absence (STA) program
  • Report status of action plans, monthly environmental data collection and ergonomic submissions in internal tracking system (HSELinx)
  • Report KPI’s to management team and Corporate Office
  • Provides meaningful statistics and recommendations to Management in a timely manner to ensure continued improvement of workplace Health, Safety, Environment and Loss Control
  • Develop presentations and reference material as required for training and employee meetings
  • Coordinate the activities of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and perform regular workplace inspections
  • Review all accident / incident investigation and monthly inspection reports and provides leadership in developing corrective action
  • Administer first aid when necessary and fill out reports
  • Liaise with Engineering and Maintenance departments to ensure safety and ergonomic compliance on all new and existing equipment
  • Conduct Health & Safety / Environmental training needs analysis. Plan and coordinate internal and external safety training for all associates; conducts new associate safety orientation
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all information obtained, written or verbal, within the Human Resources department
  • Promote safety in the workplace. Instructs workers in safety, including the use of personal protective equipment, proper housekeeping, how to recognize unsafe work conditions
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of CI suggestions related to Heath & Safety or Environmental initiatives
  • Coordinates Environmental Reports i.e. NPRI, ESDM, Annual Reports, Waste Audits
  • Manages annual testing i.e. air quality, DB, hearing truck, storm, sanitation
  • Complete month end reporting
  • Other duties as may be required Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • Occupational Health and Safety Degree or Diploma
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in an automated manufacturing environment
  • Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers Compensation and Environmental legislation
  • Excellent computer skills high proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT)
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Train the Trainer certification would be considered an asset (Tuggers, Forklift)
  • Familiarity with Ergonomic principles and assessments
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
