Providence Healthcare is a site of Unity Health Toronto and is a leader in providing rehabilitation, complex care, palliative care, long-term care, ambulatory care services and community programs in Toronto. At Providence, we offer interdisciplinary specialized geriatric services including inpatient geriatric rehabilitation, outpatient geriatric and geriatric psychiatry clinics, falls prevention program, geriatric and geriatric psychiatry outreach as well as an Enhanced Adult Day Program and caregiver support services. Providence has just launched a bold new vision of becoming a Centre of Excellence in Rehabilitation Science and Healthy living, starting with developing a senior’s health program locally and corporately, as well as expanding our long- term care and ambulatory care programs.

Position Description:

The successful candidate will be a geriatric sub-specialist psychiatrist within the Providence Regional Geriatric Program, an interdisciplinary team of health professionals. The primary clinical role responsibilities will include outpatient consults and outreach services to the community and Providence long-term care home(s). In addition, all psychiatrists are expected to contribute to the department as a whole by providing coverage of integral functions as required including covering the in-patient and long-term care consult liaison services during colleague’s absences and participating in committees and rounds. There is currently no after hours on-call support required.

Additional expectations include obtaining and maintaining an appointment with the University of Toronto, Department of Psychiatry and fulfilling the responsibilities associated with the appointment. All staff and physicians are also expected to contribute to our ongoing efforts to improve the quality of the services we deliver and improving our ability to respond to the mental health needs of the community we serve. If not engaged in organizing quality improvement (QI) projects directly, all physicians are expected to contribute to QI by participating in QI projects whenever required.

Required Qualifications:

This individual will have or be eligible for certification in Geriatric Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and will hold an MD degree and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). They will also have or be eligible for an appointment at the University of Toronto

Remuneration, Office space, Clerical Support, Full-Time Equivalent

Remuneration is currently fee for service. Office space is shared amongst clinicians working within the Regional Geriatric Program and is provided by the hospital without cost to physicians. Clerical support is provided for patient care related activities such as booking appointments, fielding telephone calls, patient registration, photocopying, faxing and filing of charts.

This role is expected to be 0.6 full time equivalent consultant role.
