The Opportunity:Are you an experienced Leader who is ready for the challenges and rewards of team management? We are seeking an exceptional individual with strong leadership capabilities to join our Grande Prairie Survey team as Division Manager. We are seeking an individual to lead a team of skilled professional and technical staff in a variety of survey projects. You will be supported by senior technical specialists with extensive market relationships. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically proficient self-starter with supervisory skills, business development, project management and client management capabilities. This role offers eligibility for shareholding privileges in our employee-owned company.While working collaboratively with other McElhanney branches in a strong team environment, the Division Manager will lead a team of approximately 12 field staff, 3 drafters, and 2 project managers, while contributing to branch and regional strategic planning, controlling division budgets and scopes, as well as development of new and existing business, marketing of the branch’s services, and liaising with clients on project matters.Situated at the gateway of northern Alberta, our Grande Prairie office work closely with the oil & gas, transportation, construction, and development industries. Our local team offers Surveying Geomatics (including legal survey), and Engineering services to Grande Prairie and surrounding areas. Our Grande Prairie branch applies emerging technologies to solve unique problems and assigns teams to work closely and collaboratively with clients.Deadline to apply: November 25, 2022What You’ll Be Doing:As a seasoned professional, the Division Manager will work closely with the Branch Manager and project managers to achieve operation excellence, collaboration and resource sharing across the region and company. The successful candidate can rely on a very capable and established operational and support teams and a strong, cohesive, branch culture that incorporates and prioritizes our shared commitments to safety, project management excellence, and client satisfaction. The Division Manager empowers and develops their team and effectively contributes to our local community.
  • Lead survey division operations including management of business development, workload, staffing, equipment, safety, quality, and financial outcomes
  • Participate in technical and financial aspects of projects, participate in their execution as required
  • Contribute to the branch survey budget development and achieve financial KPI’s and targets
  • Achieve all other non-financial KPI’s
  • Supervise and mentor survey staff to assist with professional development and foster an engaged culture with strong technical capabilities
  • Manage staff performance and facilitate development of employee learning plans. Establish effective talent acquisition and retention plans
  • Prepare survey aspects of branch strategic plans and budgets
  • Represent McElhanney to the external environment including clients, businesses, and professional associations to enhance McElhanney’s positive public profile
  • Nurture existing and develop new strategic relationships with key clients, agencies, and partners
  • Ensure the branch has the right survey people, in the right positions, doing the right things; aligned perfectly to fulfill our company purpose: ACE: Amaze our clients, Care for our communities, Empower our people
  • Champion and promote a culture of safety and adherence to McElhanney HSE policies and Safe Work Methods
What You’ll Bring:
  • Diploma or degree in Geomatics and 7+ years’ experience in consulting or management
  • Possession of a current Alberta Land Surveyor (ALS) Commission and current good standing with the ALS or an equivalent Canadian provincial land surveying commission with the ability to quickly obtain an ALS commission
  • A proven track record of deploying technology to streamline survey practices.
  • A keen interest in advanced survey technologies
  • Experience working closely with other disciplines like civil engineering is an asset.
  • Demonstrated success in business development and fostering long-term client relationships
  • Substantial project management experience with demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and budget
  • The ability to lead, develop, and motivate a team and work well in a team environment; prior supervisory or management experience is required
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
