Primary Responsibilities

HDR is an employee-owned engineering, architecture, and consulting firm with more than 10,000 professionals in 185 locations worldwide. Our dedication to a high standard of service has allowed us to serve a growing list of public and private clients across Canada, the United States and around the world. HDR’s Environmental Sciences & Planning practice in Canada focuses on Environmental Assessment (EA) planning, consulting and stakeholder engagement as well as environmental permits and approvals for a variety of public and private sector clients. Our projects cross the gamut of solid waste, oil and gas, energy and transportation clients.

Preferred

The preferred candidate will be self-motivated and also possess the following attributes

The successful candidate will have a university degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in Environmental Sciences (or equivalent) as well as more than 5 years of experience in environmental assessments, environmental permitting, planning processes, and public consultation. Preference will be given to those with familiarity in federal, provincial, and municipal environmental assessment legislation and regulations and/or planning act experience. Experience in multiple jurisdictions for a variety of infrastructure, transportation and/or energy projects and with Indigenous Engagement would be an asset.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, research and report writing skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
The successful candidate will work in a team environment and will be responsible for contributing to environmental assessments, environmental permitting, and land use planning on a variety of projects and with a wide range of clients. He/she will also be responsible for proposal and report writing and presentations and supporting public and Indigenous engagement.

In This Role You Would
  • Collect project-related data, which may include research, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews, field investigations for wetlands, and land use
  • Prepare constraints mapping and net effects analysis
  • Conduct environmental assessments (EAs) and environmental impact studies (EIS)
  • Assist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearings
  • Prepare, plan and analyze/review technical studies, permit applications, EA and IA documents, and similar reports/documents
  • Assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance
  • Perform other duties as needed
Candidates must be committed to quality and HDR values, and should be available for travel primarily to locations within Canada.

Required Qualifications

Post-secondary education in Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, Environmental Science or a closely related field.

More than 5 years’ environmental experience.

Fluency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Powerpoint).

Familiarity with Provincial and Federal Environmental Assessment legislation, including Ontario and/or Alberta EA and

Environmental Protection regimes

Class G Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
