Maritime Electric Company, Limited owns and operates a fully integrated system providing for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity to customers throughout Prince Edward Island and has an immediate opening for an Energy Control Centre Operator (Float).

Duties to include:

  • Review and approve all applications and issue work permits, hold-offs and station guarantees and coordinate the necessary switching, logging, and tagging of necessary equipment to ensure a safe work environment;
  • Forecast the hourly load requirements for the Maritime Electric system (including external sales) on a day ahead basis;
  • Economically dispatch all of Maritime Electric’s resources, review and update if necessary, load requirements (including external sales) and re-dispatch the necessary requirements to meet that updated load on a daily basis;
  • Restore the system to normal after transmission disturbances;
  • Monitor scheduling and tagging within the Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT), taking appropriate action when required;
  • Monitor wind generation schedules and take appropriate action to meet hourly load requirements;
  • Maintain system voltages at correct levels;
  • Keep the SCADA system up to date of system conditions at all times;
  • Maintain a daily log of all activities;
  • Customer interaction;
  • Record and dispatch no power calls;
  • This position will be required to work shift work including night shifts and weekends; and
  • This position will be available for deployment to perform work within their capabilities when not required at the Energy Control Centre.

The successful candidate will possess a Grade 12 academic diploma at a minimum. Preference will be given to electrical technicians or electrical technologists or applicants with an applicable post-secondary degree or diploma related to the electrical field from a recognized post-secondary institution or an applicable trade qualification from an accredited Indentured/Apprenticeship Program. The ideal candidate will have a fully developed technical knowledge with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the electric utility field or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience. Experience in electric utility control room operations is considered an asset.

The salary rate for this position is $95,000 - $105,000 (probationary rate/full rate) as per the current collective agreement between Maritime Electric and Local No. 1928 – Unit 10 IBEW.
