Primary Purpose

The EHS Leader will provide critical support to the Mission operating facility and the Plant Leader to ensure the environmental, health, and safety requirements of the facility are met through ownership and accountability in the areas of environmental, health and safety compliance and stewardship related to all plant activities.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Execute the Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements of the facility:
  • Drive and maintain compliance with environmental operating permits locally; Implement and maintain environmental monitoring and recordkeeping to satisfy requirements of the plant’s operating permits
  • Implement and maintain environmental programs such as air and water compliance, spill prevention and control, universal and hazardous waste and materials management, solid waste recycling, and employee training as required
  • Drive a robust Environmental Management System
  • Provide regulatory guidance to facility leadership team and plant personnel
  • Work with Division resources to facilitate sustainability reporting, metrics tracking and other current or pending regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a presence on the plant floor to fully engage employees, contractor and vendors in the sound
  • Environmental management process, expectations and requirements
  • Participate in the plants efforts to engage the entire workforce to build a powerful E&S culture
  • Lead the Health & Safety Committee and support the sub-committees
  • Continually reinforce the company’s stand on safety and environmental stewardship and always recognize employee accomplishments and contributions
  • Empower employees to prevent or stop and correct unsafe acts or work conditions
  • Provide expert technical support in identifying and resolving critical safety regulatory issues
  • Oversee safety policies, systems, and processes to ensure provincial, federal and business unit compliance For safety incidents, ensure proper investigation, root cause analysis, communication and aggressive action planning and execution to prevent future repeat incidents across any OC locations
  • Educate primary employees in safety processes and safe work procedures
  • Direct hazard recognition and control training, risk control events, and risk reduction efforts
Track And Report Metrics
  • Federal, Provincial and Local Environmental requirements
  • Plant Safety metrics- RIR, first aids, near misses, SAFE and Critical 6 Scores
  • Plant Environmental metrics - ENCs, NOVs, Sustainability scorecard
  • Corporate and Division Metrics for Sustainability improvements/footprint reductions
  • % closure on safety incident corrective actions within 30 days
  • Deficiencies in internal EHS audits
  • Reoccurrence of similar injuries and incidents

The EHS Leader applies this knowledge to successfully influence other plant personnel to make sound environmental and safety recommendations on a day to day operating basis.

Environmental, Health and Safety Leader

TPM

Drive Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
  • Actions & Implementation Ownership of TPM activities in increasing total production standards Responsible for leading the development and execution of TPM implementation plans to meet and exceed the business objectives
  • Assist in leading and facilitating teams through events including but not limited to: Kaizen events, 5S, Lean Daily Management, Waste Elimination, Managing for Daily Improvement, Visual Factory, Six Sigma projects and other similar processes.
  • Oversee the upkeep and continuous auditing of the TPM pillar boards throughout the plant
  • Hold team members accountable for follow-through on TPM activities or improvements.
  • Support the TPM leader with various TPM related activities Eliminates potential health and safety risks, resulting in a safer workplace.
  • Specifically targets the goal of an accident-free workplace
Experience

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • 3-5 years of experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s degree required- Safety or Environmental discipline is strongly preferred, engineering, business management, or related discipline
  • Direct Safety experience preferred
  • Management Systems experience is a plus
  • Track record of coordinating large, complex projects
Knowledge And Abilities
  • Lead by example and encourage teamwork and effective communication Understanding of current British Columbia standards and regulations in manufacturing Experience with programs like Excel, Access, and Process Explore/IP-21 required
  • Knowledge of key required Environmental recordkeeping or reporting tools like, "STEERS", "Tierll Submit" "TriMe, etc
  • Ability to interpret environmental laws and permits
  • Required to stay abreast of the changing regulatory landscape
