Director of Procurement & Supply Chain (Consumer Goods)

Our client, a leading Consumer Goods Company, is looking to hire a Director of Procurement & Supply Chain, on a full-time, permanent basis, at their office located in North York, Ontario.

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Procurement & Supply Chain will be responsible for leading the team that strategically directs the procurement process and ensures the availability of all necessary materials required to support the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Sourcing

1.New Product Launches

  • Lead the new product launch preparations for all approved assets, with responsibility for ensuring the R&D development program supports and aligns to commercial value proposition.
  • Cross-functional strategy alignment: Partners with IT, Finance, Project Management, and Portfolio Management to develop and systematically apply a methodology to maximize new product value with settlements.
  • Ensure that there is no obsolescence from purchases related to New Product Launches.
  • Oversees Purchasing - commercial product launch

2.Supplier Management

  • Detect and resolve issues that may result in supply disruptions.
  • Negotiate & implement overall supply programs with suppliers for overall cost savings by implementation of JIT, VMI or production pull programs.
  • Initiate, promote and maintain communication within the Purchasing Management organization, emphasizing connectivity between Purchasing, Planning, Sales and Demand Planning
  • Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making. Identify data requirements for process interdependencies.
  • Cost savings by Vendor consolidation and negotiation through strategic sourcing initiatives, such as RFP, RFQ, and Reverse Auctions.

Replenishment

  • Generate and review MRP on a daily basis as per commodity to ensure smooth material flow. Proactively interact with purchasing to expedite material flow to overcome material shortage.
  • Ensure the availability of all necessary materials required to support the manufacturing process with proper inventory management.
  • Efficiently re-engineered tactical planning and servicing operations to extend performance and improve customer service levels to service the customers.
  • Acts as a primary contact representing Replenishment Team and liaise with internal customers to coordinate efficient and continuous information flow. Escalates issues as required.
  • Work directly with Production and Purchasing to create and manage the schedule of all customer orders, with focus on mid to long term planning.
  • Assess demand and establish availability to commit as well as communicate with Sales Demand planner to review the sales forecast for any variance.
  • Establishes and implements forecast for next 12 months
  • Prepare analytical reports on a regular and ad-hoc basis providing data driven insights to help optimize S&OP decisions.
  • Develops automated reports and acts on them to ensure exceptions (upward and downward) to material consumption and/or finished goods are captured timely and takes necessary measures to avoid shortages. Advises Sales on those exceptions and escalates as required.
  • Works with Production, R&D, Product Development, Sales and Documentation Coordinator to service customers’ needs, as well as managing and maintaining future data.
  • Implements and publishes production schedule material status report to support Purchasers to bring the components as per schedule to manage the warehouse space as well as with proper inventory management to improve customer service level.
  • Schedule/oversee product flow
  • Ensure that there is no obsolescence from purchases related to Replenishment
  • Consistently improve on-time delivery performance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Process Improvements, KPI’s & Budget Management

  • Focus on process improvements by leading the identification of technology platforms that can be leveraged across multiple assets and enhance and generate commercial value for the Company
  • Creating, revising, implementing and enforcing proper purchasing procedures for improved efficiency

People Management

  • Supervise, coach and direct the purchasing and replenishment activities of Purchasing staff
  • Actively monitor and manage the purchasing activities daily with clear and concise communication, direction and leadership
  • Provide formal reviews to Purchasing staff.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education required (degree/diploma in Purchasing, Supply Chain or applicable field)
  • CSCMP designation, or MBA an asset
  • 4+ years experience managing a team
  • 10+ years of progressive Supply Chain & Procurement experience in the Consumer-Packaged Goods industry
  • Procurement, Inventory Management, Transportation, ERP Systems, Accounting Systems, Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Material Planning
  • Experience working with commodities (an asset)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, with a high volume of skus ideal
