You’re a technologist who’s ready to get involved on a wide variety of transportation engineering projects as part of the Owner’s Engineer team. You are adaptable; you talk easily with project managers, engineers, and construction contractors. You follow quality control procedures with conviction. You want to learn more about the construction phase of large multidisciplinary projects and how a team works together to get projects done.

Binnie is looking for a Technologist to join our Transportation Major Projects Division, which provides Owner’s Engineer services for the design and procurement of major infrastructure projects in British Columbia. Our recent projects include Highway 91/17 Improvements, Pattullo Bridge Replacement project and Alex Fraser Bridge Capacity Improvements.

The position is in our Burnaby office where you will be working with some of the most experienced senior technical experts in the industry, Senior Project Managers and Engineers on interesting design and construction management and field assignments. You will be a member of our diverse team in a challenging role that offers mentorship opportunities.

YOUR ROLE:

  • Performing on-site inspection duties, monitor the quality of work and identify deficiencies/non-conformances
  • Attend construction meetings and other project meetings as necessary with the Client, Contractor, and the project team
  • Preparation of project progress reports and related construction documentation such as inspection reports and issues log
  • Participate in quality control/quality assurance reviews and audits and prepare audit reports and issues log
  • Provide technical support through the design and construction phase of projects
  • Effectively communicate relevant project information to the Client, Contractor, Project Manager/Engineer and other key project personnel
  • Mentoring less experienced staff in similar work and role

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • 7+ years of related experience on complex multidisciplinary transportation engineering projects
  • Completed Diploma in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Registration as an AScT with ASTTBC (or eligible for immediate registration)
  • Experience with projects involving field reviews/engineering, quality management and writing project progress reports
  • Ability to consistently produce accurate, high quality work with minimal supervision
  • Valid Driver’s License to conduct site visits as required
  • Willing to work outdoors on-site as required, including night work
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
