About Us

To support that challenge, the Data & Commercial Operations Team is currently seeking a Data Strategy Manager that will develop and execute a comprensive data strategy for Syngenta Canada to support commercial activity and digitally enabled initiatives. The role will oversee all data operations to ensure the accuracy and utility of Syngenta’s data. Also, the Data Strategy Manager will prepare the organization for future initiatives (e.g., value chain sustainability, subscription model, business planning services) by establishing and overseeing sound data management and governance practices.

We have a Flexible Work Location approach and this role can be based in Guelph, Calgary, AB or remotely across Canada.

What Will You Do

• Establish and monitor policies and procedures related to how data is accessed and processed to manage data integrity, security and ease of use, in line with internal data standards and policies
• Ensure compliance of data acquisition, storage and use with legal guidelines
• Support other functions in communicating company data privacy efforts to external stakeholders (e.g., growers)
• Ensure each internal function have the skillset to use data efficiently and effectively to create a data-driven digital organization
• Develop a data acquisition and augmentation approach to meet the company’s commercial needs
• Create and maintain solutions for optimal data integration, including data pipeline architecture and infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources
• Increase platform and analytics capacity and capability, incorporating new technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence), to better serve commercial processes, understand customers, and develop better products
• Support the development of and Co-chair a Data Operations Committee to oversee cross-functional processes by unifying the flow of existing commercial data across functions; automate data collection and processing
• Use resources effectively; collaborate with IT to rationalize data and technology spend and develop new projects to create cost-saving opportunities
  

Qualifications

You are someone with:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related study (i.e. computer science, economics/statsitcs and technology)
• 5+ years of data management or data strategy experience
• Practical knowledge of tools, frameworks and technologies in the following categories: Data Strategy (Data governance, data management), Business Intelligence (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik), Machine Learning (R, Python, SAS, SPSS) and Cloud Platforms (Googlem Azure, Amazon Web Services)
• Conceptual understanding of how commercial teams work with Supply Chain, Finance, and Production
• Data management toolsets associated with forecasting, sales and account management (SAP, Salesforce & analytics tools)
• Understanding and/or experience with Data Protection compliance with current legislation (GDPR)
• Experience implementing data and analytics strategies in regional operations
