Job Description
This position reports to the Manager of Adult Community and Rehabilitation Services in Mental Health and Addictions. This position is responsible for the provision of clinical assessment, case management and interventions, as well as health promotion and prevention services to clients 18 years or older experiencing problems related to mental health. The Community Mental Health Nurse will also provide coverage for other rehabilitation team members, group facilitation, and work within the context of the interdisciplinary team.

Required Qualifications
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA) or Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS)
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing or Bachelor Degree in Psychiatric Nursing
- Valid drivers license and the ability to travel both within the Region and Provincially.
A minimum of two (2) years experience as a nurse in a Mental Health environment in the previous five (5) years.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Ability to communicate with and maintain an effective working relationship with clients from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds
- Conflict management, negotiation, and change management skills.
- Demonstrates highly developed clinical assessment skills
- Demonstrate flexibility by adjusting workload to accommodate client needs in a manner that ensures positive client relations
- Ability to be self directed and exercise independent nursing judgment in a community-based environment
- Adhere to established Mental Health Services policies and procedures
- Possess a sound knowledge of the nursing process and its application to individuals, groups, communities and organizations
- Ability to make independent nursing judgments based on evidence-based practice and Mental Health principles
- Ability to use critical analysis, reflective practice, assessment, and utilize evidence-based practice
- Knowledge of therapeutic modalities, application of same, and evaluation of clinical outcomes
- Knowledge of the framework of Harm Reduction in substance use and utilization of promoting the benefits of this approach
- Ability to work cooperatively and proactively with community agencies and other departments within the Sunrise Health Region
- Ability to work autonomously and independently within a team environment
- Ability to communicate to clients, colleagues and the community in an effective professional manner
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with clients of varying ages, socio-economic status, and targeted populations
- High level of accuracy is required in all aspects of assigned responsibility such as health assessment, nursing diagnosis and treatment, and handling specialized equipment
- Ability to be flexible and independently prioritize service requirements and client needs on a daily basis
- Ability to analyze health issues in the context of the political and social climate along with individual/community readiness
- Ability to assess symptoms of mental illness, monitoring of medication and administration of medication as required
- Ability to participate in committees both internal and external to the organization
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or ability in mental health promotion and prevention strategies
- Demonstrates ability to be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgement, common sense, and caution in an unstructured environment in the community, including high-risk inner city neighborhoods. This includes the ability to identify and remove self from potentially dangerous situations, and to identify situations that may be of danger to co-workers and to inform them of same.
