PROGRAM AREA: The Seed

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract 8 weeks

HOURS/WEEK: 35 hours per week

to run programs and social enterprises that increase physical and financial access to nutritious food among people facing food insecurity.


Brief Description:

The SEED is a community food project of the Guelph Community Health Centre. About 16% of households in Guelph are food insecure (Guelph Wellbeing study, 2014). The SEED’s goal is to change that by offering programs and services that tackle the root causes of poverty. We are supported by hundreds of amazing community members and by many partner organizations.


We are seeking a youth between the ages of 18-30 to support the SEED team as a Communications Assistant. This role offers hands on experience for someone looking to grow their customer service and communications skills while supporting a team working towards food security in our community.


Eligibility requirements

This position is partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs fund. In order to be considered for this job you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment contract;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (student visas do not qualify); and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Basic Responsibilities:

Youth in this role will work as part of the SEED team as a Customer Service Assistant

  • Communicate with community members who order food from Groceries from The SEED
  • Problem solve and share information with customers
  • Track customer service using spreadsheets and other online tools
  • Work closely with FFRx team to track questions and concerns from participants
  • Help to coordinate project activities surrounding food access and security in our community

Required Qualifications:

  • Interest in community support and customer service
  • Ability to answer calls and respond to messages in a timely and professional manner
  • Interest in working with volunteers and community members
  • Ability to multitask
  • Work well as part of a team
