Our Solid Waste group in Calgary, Albertais looking for an intermediate Civil/Environmental Engineerto join their team. In this role, you will support senior staff on solid waste projects including landfills, compost facilities, recycling facilities, anaerobic digestion facilities and biogas utilization.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the project managers to deliver solid waste projects on time and on budget for clients requiring permitting, operations support, detailed design, construction management and inspection, environmental monitoring and studies, greenhouse gas (GHG) evaluations and support strategic regional business development activities.
  • Contribute to the design of landfills, transfer stations, composting facilities and anaerobic digestion facilities
  • Prepare technical reports and complete peer reviews of designs completed by others in the Waste Management Group
  • Coordinate technical resources and personnel including drafters, 3D designers, GIS and database technicians, chemists, geotechnical engineers, hydrologists, hydrogeologists, biologists, and planners to complete solid waste facility designs and plans
  • Effectively communicate with existing and prospective clients
  • Complete quantity take-offs and cost estimates
  • Develop and administer construction contract documents and conduct construction inspections and chair construction progress meetings
  • Complete regulatory compliance reviews
  • Develop studies and designs to support permitting applications in collaboration with subject matter experts
  • Participate in liaison with regulators
  • Contribute to proposal preparation

For success in this position, you will possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • P.Eng. or EIT with eligibility for P.Eng within 1 year or less in AB and BC
  • 4-8 years of relevant Engineering experience in the Civil/Environmental field
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D, surfer, PCSWMM, HELP, Scholl Canyon, Land GEM
  • Knowledge of the Western Canada waste management regulatory regime including, but not limited to, The Standards for Landfills and Composting in Alberta, Hazardous Waste Regulations, Contaminated Sites Regulation and Water Sustainability Act.
  • Knowledge of material recycling, composting and organics management technologies and regulations will be an asset.
  • Experience developing design, operations and closure plans will be considered an asset
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work both within a team and independently
  • Willingness and ability for overnight travel and to conduct field work, as required
