Child Development Supervisor 1

Reporting to the Child Development Supervisor 2, is responsible for the overall operation of licensed school-aged care programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the creation, planning, implementation and evaluation of developmentally appropriate children’s programs that address the needs of the whole child - socially, physically, intellectually, creatively and emotionally and which respect the diversity of families within the program.
  • As a team, plan, organize and evaluate child-centred group activities that benefits each child.
  • Prepare and assist children with eating snacks; toileting.
  • Assist Supervisor 2 to oversee and direct staff in school-aged childcare programs.
  • Assist Supervisor 2 to interview and hire staff; conduct staff orientation related to program environment and staff manual; facilitate regular staff meetings; provide staff with a shift schedule and conduct staff evaluations.
  • Develop and demonstrate child guidance techniques; encourage children to take responsibility for their actions and to develop problem-solving skills.
  • Promote family participation in special events and fund raising; encourage family and child development and act as a resource for families.
  • Ensure staff maintain regular communication with families; ensure families receive monthly activity and snack calendars prior to the beginning of each month.
  • Assist Supervisor 2 in liaising between the program, schools, and community professionals; liaise between instructors and Coordinator.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional program environment is safe for children.
  • Document children’s unusual behavioural and developmental changes in confidential book; sign off on all accidents, contagious illnesses and licensing incident reports; report suspicions of child abuse to Supervisor 2.
  • Ensure staff are aware of emergency procedures and the location of safety equipment.
  • Ensure all programs meet provincial licensing requirements.
  • Monitor children in indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Oversee the set up of the program room (ie play and study areas).
  • Assume Supervisor 2 duties in his/her absence.
  • Assist Supervisor 2 in the maintenance and reconciliation of monthly budgets.
  • Book out-trips including transportation.
  • Responsible to fill out accident report forms.
  • Other related duties as assigned and may vary according to facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Additional 20 hours or related child care related child care related courses (ie. education, supported child development, child development and program planning) and a minimum one year experience working with children, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • BCRPA High Five - Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification.
  • Licensing requirements submitted prior to start date: 20 hour of related child care related courses (ie. education, supported child development, child development and program planning) and a minimum one year experience working with children, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Assets

  • Grade 12
  • Experience working with children that require extra support
  • Early Child Education Diploma
  • Experience leading/managing a group or team
  • Class 4 driver’s license

Hours

  • Morning Care operates M-F from 7-9am and After Care operates M-F from 2-60pm
  • This job is ideal for students who are interested in part-time work and are available 2-5 days/week
  • Professional Days, Winter and Spring break days have additional hours available

Compensation and Benefits

  • $20.54-$21.79 per hour
  • Eligible for benefits after 3 months
