Position Description:Provide automation support for manufacturing processes at the PEI site. Implement, support, and optimize automation systems across the PEI site. This role takes responsibility for delivery of all automation system lifecycle activities, including requirements generation, system configuration, system administration, architecture development, validation, and maintenance.

Functions, Duties, Tasks:
  • Develop a technical understanding of the manufacturing processes supported including awareness of good manufacturing practices, customer requirements, process flow, safety critical operations and control strategies.
  • Develop and maintain expertise and knowledge across the different automation platforms used at PEI – such as Delta Control, QBMS, OSI PI, Rockwell.
  • Provide SME support in integrating business systems using an array of technologies – these may include middleware integration technologies such as OPC, SQL and industry standards such as ISA S95.
  • Document work and learning in technical documents (specifications, standards).
  • Represent automation at Process Team huddles and engineering team meetings.
  • Partner with site functions and Process Teams as necessary to deal with day-to-day issues that impact production, supply or product SISPQ.
  • Investigate process incidents using appropriate root cause investigation tool, defines robust CAPA’s and documents in the Veeva system.
  • Support internal and external audits as a technical SME.
  • Complete periodic reviews and updates of technical documents.
  • Owns the scheduling and execution of software updates on the Automation servers.
  • Provide technical coaching to Engineering, CBRE and Process Team members.
  • Promote and demonstrate safe working practices on site.
  • Work with site functions and Process Teams to identify process improvement/optimization opportunities.
  • Implement (and own where appropriate) automation changes designed to maintain or enhance safety, product quality, yield, and throughput in line with business needs, whilst ensuring no detrimental impact to Product Quality or regulatory commitments. Ensure changes meet user requirements.
  • Drive prioritization of change activity according to site goals.
  • Provide SME input and support for delivery of capital project work involving Site Projects Groups and third-party system integrators.
  • Own the Computer System Validation (CSV) process for new equipment or infrastructure.
  • Maintain list of automation systems on site, identify critical automation obsolescence risks and develop business cases for replacement projects.
  • Carry out Periodic Reviews to ensure that systems continue to operate in a validated/qualified state.
  • Maintain the automation system licenses and manage the update of automation software and servers.
  • Train users in the effective use of site automation systems.
  • Author and update/maintain system lifecycle documentation.
  • Identify training opportunities to ensure personal automation skillset is maintained.
  • Manage and maintain the relationship with automation vendors necessary for the ongoing support of site systems.
  • Participate in and contribute to the Elanco Process Automation Community of Practice.
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • 3-7 years’ experience with automation principles.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical, Biotech or related environment is preferred.
  • Proven analytical thinking and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Must have strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and must have strong high attention to detail.
  • Understanding of Computer System Validation (CSV)
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Strong Project Management/Delivery skills including ability to resolve or escalate issues.
  • Provide backup 24 hour support as the business requires.
  • Vendor Management (External Resources).
  • Must have a good understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Must have the ability to plan and structure work to meet deadlines.
  • Must have the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks.

Other:
  • Must have the flexibility/ability to work evenings and weekends if the business requires it.
  • Must have the flexibility/ability to work overtime if the business requires it.
