JOB DESCRIPTION

After-School All-stars is an afterschool program that engages children between the ages of 6 to 11 with programming and activities designed to encourage the growth of developmental assets. While primarily a recreation based program, AS All-Stars engages youth recreation, nutrition, arts and literacy programming.

The After-School All Stars - Program Coordinator is responsible for services, programming and facility management associated with AS All-Stars at one program location. The Program Coordinator keeps current on community needs and implements and develops new programs that respond to these needs.

General BGCY

  • Ensures that BGCY program standards, guidelines and policies are followed, and that programs align to BGCY’s Mission, Vision, Values and strategic direction;
  • Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of program development and delivery, as per BGCY policy and procedure;
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings and training sessions;
  • Keeps informed and has a general awareness of all BGCY programs and services, including usage of communication tools such as email and intranet/webpage, etc;
  • Assist the relevant Director in light office duties and other related duties as requested.
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates middle-years appropriate programming, ensuring that the social/recreational needs of children and families who visit the program are met;
  • Assigned a program budget, the Program Lead is responsible for keeping track of expenditures and operating within budget guidelines;
  • Records, compiles and submits regular accurate program records, statistics, health and safety reports, and other records as requested by the Coordinator and/or Director;
  • Assist Coordinator and/or Director in recruitment, training, and scheduling of Auxiliary On-Call staff and volunteers.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations at one AS All-Stars program location;
  • Engages middle years youth in appropriate programming and activities as per a developed program plan;
  • Work as part of a team to foster an atmosphere that promotes healthy lifestyle, self-esteem, teamwork through fun, safe, and challenging activities, while being a positive adult role model;
  • Ensure site safety, cleanliness, and security, including the proper opening and lock up of all facilities, set-up and dismantling of all program areas, general maintenance duties, and ensuring proper care for all vehicles and equipment;
  • Ensure client safety by adhering to all BGCY emergency policy and procedures and conducting regular staff, participant and site safety exercises.
  • Act as primary liaison with relevant school staff to ensure that programs are coordinated, school administration staff is aware of Club operations and that good relations and communications are maintained;
  • Act as primary liaison with parents/guardians and provides regular updates to parents/guardians on the behaviour and development of their child;
  • Keeps informed and up to date with names of key community volunteers and, in consultation with the Director, works to further the interests of the Boys and Girls Club movement through active participation in community activities;
  • Assist in office reception, including greeting, answering telephones and providing general information.
  • Current Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector);
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Certificate;
  • Valid Foodsafe Level 1 Certificate (must be attained within first 3 months of work);
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation;
  • One year of experience developing and running programs for children and youth in a social, recreational or similar environment;

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated teamwork, leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to problem solve and find resolutions to issues/conflict;
  • Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Proven time management skills;
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications;
  • An educational background in recreation, social services, child and youth care, or equivalent is an asset.
