This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Director, the Administrative Patient Flow Manager is an integrated role that incorporates the 24/7 patient flow and after hours administrative functions. Using sound principles of Utilization Management the role is responsible for facilitating patient placement to appropriate services by identifying and overcoming delays in admission, transfer and discharge. This position involves liaising with the Emergency Department, Booking Officers, Health Service Directors, Managers, Staff Physicians, Discharge Planning Coordinators and other Health Care Agencies within and external to NSH and possibly in other provinces. While the day focus of this role, when full administrative supports are on site, will be on clinical flow, after hours and on holidays and weekends the role will provide a resource for health professionals and support departments and the liaison for Senior Management and Executive. Responsibility for some of the duties of Risk Management, Patient Representative, Social Work and Infection Control are included in the role during hours of duty. Hospital Executive vests authority and accountability with the incumbent on duty to make all decisions that will maintain the highest standard of patient care and the safe efficient operation of the QEII/DGH in a demanding fast-paced environment.


Qualifications

  • Relevant Bachelors Degree required (BA, BBA, B.Sc. or Health Related Discipline)
  • Relevant Masters Degree an asset
  • Minimum of three to five years of progressive administrative experience in health care management and/ or related experience
  • Clinical experience with utilization and patient flow management practices, methodologies or equivalent knowledge, experience and education is required
  • Demonstrated organizational skills in leadership, communication, decision-making, problem-solving and motivation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Best Practice Utilization Management and Clinical Flow practices
  • Ability to interpret and execute administrative directives in order to act as the executive representative
  • Demonstrated knowledge in current trends in health care practice
  • Demonstrated effective decision making competency related to patient care management both with respect to engagement of clinical teams and physician leaders as well as administrative clinical leadership
  • Knowledge of and experience with change management principles and methodologies
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently as well as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of Administrative Policy/Procedures
  • Must possess the ability to take a leadership role and make independent decisions in any situation, assuring legal and ethical issues are considered and demonstrating diplomacy, tact, creativity and good judgment in interpersonal relationships in a demanding fast paced environment
  • Competencies in other languages preferred, French an asset

Hours of Work

  • Permanent Part Time 80%; 60 hours bi-weekly
  • Commencing as soon as possible
  • Shift rotation and work on weekends is required

$39.6757 - $52.7174
