Collect & transport samples of potential workplace contaminants as they pertain to occupational health & safety.

Job Duties:

Successful candidates will be responsible for delivering the technical components of environmental health and safety projects and provide support to Project Managers. The successful candidate must be a detail-oriented, critical thinker with strong writing skills. The successful candidate must be capable of collecting accurate field information and compiling the data into well-structured reports.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and complete contaminated sites projects in Eastern Canada, including Phase I, II & III ESAs, hydrogeological investigations, soil and groundwater sampling programs, surface water and sediment sampling programs, soil vapour sampling, and contaminated site remediation projects. Additional management responsibilities may apply for projects involving hazardous materials assessments, risk assessments, geophysics, solid waste management and industrial air quality
  • Prepare and review written reports, compile and revise contracts and other supporting documentation
  • Recording data and observations in an accurate and well-organized manner
  • Prepare and manage health and safety plans for field projects, coordinate field programs, prepare project contracts and agreements, and complete sub-contractor selection. Coordinate, manage and build business relationships with clients, regulators, service providers (e.g., laboratories, sub-contractor) and third-party stakeholders
  • Understand environmental regulations related to contaminated sites work in Atlantic Canada and other jurisdictions (e.g., Federal Lands, adjacent provinces, or territories)
  • Provide site supervision/contract administration on contaminated site and remediation projects that require a combination of technical depth and management skills in the field
  • Complete contaminated site projects including Phase III Environmental Site Assessments and contaminated site remediation projects.
  • Ability to travel and conduct field work in urban and remote locations within Atlantic Canada
  • · Maintain all industrial hygiene equipment and ensure all is calibrated, ready for use and in good condition.
  • Supervise and verify site remediation and tank removal activities.
  • Prepare detailed field notes, data analysis and evaluation.
  • Participate in technical report and proposal writing; and
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.

Experience

  • Strong field experience in several of collection and analysis of field data, environmental site assessments, chemistry, geology, hydrogeology, remediation engineering, site characterization, environmental management, health and safety
  • Management of multiple simultaneous environmental projects in remote and urban locations
  • Technical experience in several of geology, hydrogeology, field procedures, environmental chemistry, contracting/construction, environmental and remediation engineering, site characterization, waste management, landfill monitoring, and health and safety
  • Experience working around heavy equipment, including drill rigs and excavators
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies
  • Experience in one of: construction monitoring and construction quality assurance for verifying remediation objectives have been achieved, tendering and procurement of remediation services, hazardous building substances survey, or training internal staff on field programs will be an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills

  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office family of products
  • Proficiency in several of: CAD, GIS, Surfer, GINT, ESDat or database abilities will be an asset

Requirements:

  • A diploma in environmental or civil engineering technology, degree in environmental sciences, degree in engineering, or a related environmental field
  • Proven experience in environmental consulting or related industrial experience as an environmental professional
  • Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Physically fit and able to conduct field work in all weather conditions
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong people skills and a desire and ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff
  • Be available for local travel and extended working hours when required
  • Availability to work on occasional nights and weekends
