Insurance Business Analyst

As a member of the Insurance & Claims Management team, you will play an integral role in supporting the operations of the section and multiple stakeholders across the City by handling claims, identifying and mitigating corporate risk.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Devise methods for collecting and analyzing background material on technical operations, fiscal administrative or economic developments
  • Performs assessment of Section performance metrics, provides input on efficiencies, workflow and quality assurance of files
  • Collect and analyze background material on technical or economic developments in relation to risk tolerance
  • Apply mathematical formulas, other statistical techniques to analyze the data
  • Review assessment practices and methodology to ensure adequacy or to determine needs for reassessment e.g. claims file audits, metrics
  • Define and design definition of project and prepare models of problem areas
  • Specify manipulative or computational methodology and procedures
  • Determine research base, suggest areas of pertinent data, prepare estimates and forecasts using past, current and future trends
  • Consult or liaise with departmental and civic officials on a regular basis
  • Use computers and dashboards to assist in analysis and optimization of trends, data, estimates, etc.
  • Perform analysis of methods and statistical calculations necessary to conduct studies
  • Create and maintain dashboards to support analysis and reporting
  • Assist in the interpretation and effect of government, civic, departmental and other regulations and restrictions on policies and procedures
Qualifications:
  • University graduation (preferably at the Master’s level) in Business Administration or related discipline
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ directly related working experience is required
  • Considerable knowledge of work methods, studies and analyses procedures, practices and terminology as related to the work assigned
  • Knowledge of departmental and civic policies, regulations and operations
  • Considerable knowledge of simulation, modelling, operation research and statistical techniques
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions of an advanced nature
  • Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships as necessitated by work assignments
  • Ability to prepare and present technical briefs and reports
  • Considerable skill in preparing technical reports and in making recommendations
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $45.846 - $57.931 (Hourly); $80,769.190 - $102,059.940 (Annually)
