The Insight Mentor is an integral multi-disciplinary team member who will support, provide education and information
to high risk pregnant women and mothers who are experiencing difficulties with alcohol and/or drugs during pregnancy.
Provides direct outreach and advocacy services to women who are at high risk of birthing a child with FAS and their
families while maintaining clear interpersonal boundaries with clients.

An empowering, strength based focus and holistic approach will be used. The mentors will work extensively in the
community setting.

This position requires the frequent provision of services and travel.

The NHR endorses the Principles of Harm Reduction and, as per policy, all staff will establish a context that supports
individuals, families and communities in making healthy decisions directed toward reducing or containing the adverse
health, social and economic consequences of behaviors, attitudes and environments that may increase risk to a person’s
health.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Post-secondary certificate/or degree preferred
  • Provincial Training program required prior to working directly with clients
  • BCLS, NVCI, and ASIST training an asset
  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class V driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel throughout the
Region year round
  • Familiar with Windows based programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet
  • Minimum two (2) years’ community related work experience working with women, preferably in the area of
substance abuse and/or pregnancy
  • Satisfactory employment record required
  • Successful candidate subject to provide security checks in accordance with Security Checks for Employment
Policy (HR-02-80. Waived for internal candidates with current checks on file.
