BBA is seeking a Hydrotechnical and Dam Safety Engineer to support our continued growth and achievement of our strategic objectives as consultants in the natural resource and renewable energy industries. The selected candidate will be involved in all phases of hydrotechnical and dam safety engineering within an exciting and growing portfolio across Canada.

  • Perform Dam Safety Reviews (DSR’s), Operation Maintenance & Surveillance Manuals (OM&S) and Dam Emergency Plans (DEP’s)
  • Design of hydraulic structures, hydrology and numerical flow modeling, floodplain assessments and mapping, design of sedimentation/detention ponds, channel stabilization and erosion protection works.
  • Take on projects with river infrastructure, including water intakes; outfalls; dams and weirs; fishways; flood mitigation, river training; and protective works.
  • Complete flood inundation, and flood hazard mapping.
  • Apply hydrologic studies including flood frequency analysis.
  • Produce engineering proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and other documentation to support project development.
  • Participate in site inspections.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members.
  • Supervise personnel assigned to your projects.

Overview Of Certifications And Job Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • At least 10 years related work experience.
  • Must be registered, or be eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Dam Safety Guidelines, Associated Technical Bulletins and the BC Dam Safety Regulations.
  • Solid understanding and experience using of HEC-RAS, FLO-2D and other hydraulic modelling software.
  • Watercourse crossings such as bridges, pipelines, roads and other linear infrastructure is a plus.
  • A safety-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting, legislation and regulations including the Riparian Area Regulation and the Water Sustainability Act and its applicability in BC.
  • Fish habitat and watercourse restoration.
  • Managing projects, administering contracts, and controlling budgets.
  • Business development initiatives.
  • Contract document preparation, including detailed design drawings and technical documents.
  • Experience with taking projects from proposal stage through conceptual design, detailed design, and construction.
  • Experience preparing design drawings and specifications.
  • Experience in construction contract administration and site inspection services.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Strong work ethic with the desire to excel and achieve.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • The ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, manage deadlines and have exceptional organization skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
