Blue Grass Edmonton is looking to add a tree lot team member to assist in the operation of our retail/ wholesale tree and shrub-selling space. The successful candidate will aid both retail and wholesale clients in their selection of trees and shrubs. While we consider tree and shrub knowledge a significant asset, we do not require it, since we will provide training. We are seeking applicants with either experience with/ knowledge of trees and shrubs AND/ OR a strong aptitude for gardening.
Assist the manager(s) in everyday duties and responsibilities which will include:
Live Goods
- Manage inventory and ordering plant material (caliper and potted trees, shrubs, perennials)
- Receive, inspect and oversee incoming and outgoing plant material
- Organize and maintain plant material in sales yard
- Ensure product on ‘hold’ is managed for customers/contractors
Sales
- Assist customers in the selection of plant material, aggregate products and sod
- Develop strong relationships with customers to meet/exceed expectations
- Emphasize product features to meet customer needs and exhibit capabilities and limitations of the products
- Answer questions about prices, availabilities, and uses of products
- Prepare sales contracts and submit orders for processing
- Regularly communicate with management to ensure supply and demand issues are known
- Follow up with customers to make sure they are satisfied with purchases
- Resolve customer complaints related to plant materials by investigating issues, developing solutions, and making recommendations to management
Documentation
- Consistently produce accurate documentation
- Ensure customers receive verification of orders, invoices and delivery schedules
- Create spreadsheets
- Support inventory processes by working with dispatch to ensure products are pulled and invoiced correctly
Communication
- Ensure clear, concise, written and verbal communication skills
- Communicate and promote product awareness to customers as well as understand their needs to properly address them
Leadership
- Build relationships with internal and external customers
- Supervise and mentor seasonal staff
- Maintain a positive environment to enable delivery of excellent customer service
- Demonstrate professionalism and conduct behavior in accordance with Blue Grass values at all times
- Adhere to company dress code and wear company branded clothing with pride
- Consistently on time for work and meetings
Teamwork and Partnerships
- Demonstrate strong relation building ability to support internal departments
- Assist other team members when necessary
- Collaborate with colleagues to impact horticulture/product knowledge
- Provide input to the continuous improvement of customer processes
- Actively participate in planning and strategic meetings
Qualifications and Skills
- Possess horticulture knowledge of trees and shrubs to utilize for support and troubleshooting issues with customers.
- Well organized, ambitious, self-starting, and demonstrates superior attention to detail
- Post-secondary or Bachelor’s degree in a related field is desired
- Industry specific sales experience
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office; adept to learning new applications
- A valid driver’s license in good standing and reliable vehicle
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 44 per week
