Your Opportunity with Michels Canada

Reporting to the Equipment Manager, the Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for performing basic tasks in repairing and maintaining heavy trucks and trailer equipment. Critical for success is the ability to work independently and, on a team, as well as communicate effectively.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions
  • Keep vehicles and equipment available for use by performing diagnostics and preventative maintenance as per Michels Canada equipment policy.
  • Maintain vehicle and equipment functional condition replacing parts and components, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems malfunctions.
  • Utilize a multimeter and computer software to effectively diagnose faults.
  • Perform entry into Fleet Software to record work performed and repairs.
  • Ensure efficient operation of shop equipment by following operating instructions, maintaining supplies, identifying, and performing preventative maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Complete daily maintenance and cleaning of work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Your Capabilities And Credentials
  • Red Seal Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician with truck and trailer experience
  • 3+ years experience performing work on heavy trucks (Kenworth), trailers (step ups, flat decks).
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Able to move/operate equipment
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record as determined by the DOT Operations Director and Michels Legal Department
