Job Description

We are currently seeking a Health, Safety & Environment Fall/Winter Co-op student to join our plant in Hamilton, ON.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Site Supervisor and working closely with HSE Specialist, the HSE Co-Op student will assist on Environmental projects, Health & Safety projects, data collection, engineering calculations, corporate programs and other day-to-day HSE tasks. This position will provide excellent exposure to HSE management systems.

Duration: Fall/ Winter Co-op – 4 - 6 months

Location: Onsite – Hamilton and Ingersoll

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing and updating technical documents/Manuals: Standard Work Instructions, Equipment Lockout Tag out Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and Site Policies
  • Documenting Risk Assessments: Job Hazard Analyses, Confined Space Hazard Assessments
  • Equipment, pipe and valve labeling
  • Reviewing and updating Engineering drawings and process flow diagrams
  • Assist with 5S Program: labeling, organization, shadow boards preparation, layouts, and taking/posting area pictures
  • Provide general support and assistance to the HSE Specialist
  • Assist in Annual Health and Safety audits
  • Maintain relevant H&S Documents and Records
  • Compile Monthly audit Reports and statistics
  • Maintain Health and Safety training records and ensure training certifications
  • Liaise with plant staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a university level undergraduate degree program in Occupational Health & Safety or a similar discipline
  • Knowledge of OHS and government legislation and codesProactive & dynamic attitude focused on delivering results
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Applications (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Previous manufacturing experience will be considered an asset
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and able to travel between Hamilton and Ingersoll locations
