JOB OVERVIEW: HEALTH & BENEFITS SPECIALIST, PEOPLE SERVICES

The Health & Benefits Specialist is responsible for providing service and support related to pension and benefits administration, disability management, and wellness to University employees. This role provides guidance, direction and interpretation of human resources policies, processes, Collective Agreements, and Administrative Employee Working Conditions to the University. The Health & Benefits Specialist builds business partnerships with client groups to promote and support effective business decisions. This role works closely with the management, employees and a wide range of internal and external partners in the delivery of programs and services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, or a related field.

• Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) are considered an asset.

• Minimum of five years’ related experience.

• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Solid knowledge of the concepts, theories, practices and techniques of disability management, including rehabilitation, case management, attendance awareness, and stay at work/early return to work programs

• Thorough knowledge of statutory and insured benefit plans, including provincial pension plans, associated regulations and administration.

• Ability to interact effectively with a variety of individuals, with strength in communication including the ability to present information clearly, concisely and to be persuasive.

• Ability to liaise effectively and diplomatically with a wide variety of internal and external impacted parties and to advocate on behalf of the University.

• Demonstrated judgment, discretion and the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

• Demonstrated innovation and change management skills, including supporting and encouraging new ideas and approaches to build organizational efficiency.

• Demonstrated business acumen considering the business impact in decision making while maintaining a people first perspective.

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to identify and recommend creative solutions.

• Proven ability to juggle and prioritize tasks, work to deadlines and demands, making responsible decisions and determine when to seek advice.

• High customer service orientation, with the ability to create a positive and meaningful customer experience.

• Intercampus travel may be required, possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferred.
