Focus

The Greenhouse Team Lead will get their hands dirty, leading by example, and coordinating the daily activities of the greenhouse general labourers (Team Members). You will work collaboratively with all areas of the operation and ensure that instructions and deliverables issued by Management and Growers are achieved. The key focus of this position is to delegate, motivate, participate, and succeed as a team.

Key Accountabilities

• Demonstrate and instruct Team Members how to safely complete tasks and follow procedures; day to day activities include crop care, plant pruning, picking strawberries, general cleaning and facility maintenance, etc.
• Implement production plans issued by Management and Growers; develop schedules, assign tasks, set priorities, and clearly and confidently communicate expectations to the Team Members
• Ensure that defined procedures, food safety, and safe work practices are being followed at all times; maintain quality control
• Monitor and evaluate performance of Team Members, ensuring meticulous quality of work; provide regular feedback and constructive criticism to achieve desired results
• Crop scouting; observe crop quality and health, report findings and support Growers in the management of pests and disease
• Identify, communicate, troubleshoot and/or escalate issues to Management and Growers
• Participate and contribute to a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement

Key Attributes and Skills

• Both English and Punjabi language proficiency is a must (comprehension, reading, writing and speaking)
• Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills
• Problem solving

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED Certificate
• Energy and Initiative; “Get it done together!” mentality
• Minimum 1 year in a similar Team Lead or Supervisory role required, preferably in a labour-intensive industry

• Previous experience in the greenhouse industry, specifically strawberry crops, considered a great asset

Working Conditions

• Hours may be irregular and in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week
• Must have a flexible availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required

Physical Requirements

• Physically fit; able to safely lift up to 25 kg
• Constant standing/walking
