As a Full-Time Behaviour Support Workerfor our Special Needs respite program in North Vancouver, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that provides support, care, and mentorship to youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and special needs in a respite home setting. The clients stay at the program for a few nights a week which gives the parents a break and a chance for the kids to experience a new environment. You will be working with the team to create a fun and safe learning environment for the clients. The available 40 hour/week lines are:
1. Sunday-Thursday 2pm-10pm
2. Tuesday- Saturday 10pm-6am
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Psychology, ECE, ABA, Social Services, or related field and/or equivalent experience working with youth with ASD and special needs
- Minimum one year of experience working with youth with ASD and behavioural challenges
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication
- Effective de-escalation and crisis management skills
- Ability to follow behavioural support plans
- Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check and Ministry of Children and Family Development consolidated check (takes up to 6 weeks to process so please plan accordingly)
- Minimum Class 7N BC Driver’s License (Class 5 preferred) and acceptable driving record
- Proof of COVID-19 double vaccination record or exemption from the provincial health authority
A sample of what you’ll be doing:
- Maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the home
- Building positive working relationships with the client, family, community members, and other professionals involved in the care team
- Encouraging and modeling acceptable social standards and setting appropriate boundaries
- Engaging in frequent interaction with clients, using appropriate means of communication
- Facilitating recreational and/or educational activities
- Attending school meetings and case conferences when required
- Performing household maintenance duties, preparing meals, administering medication, and assisting youth with personal care as needed
- Collaborating with the clinical team and providing input into assessments and care plans
Salary: $22.70-$24/hour plus benefits
