Reporting to the Senior Wildlife Control Technician, the Junior shares the responsibility for the proactive protection of all site wildlife including vermin, migratory and feral birds to assist in improving systems, while reducing costs, risks to the facility and personnel.

This position is located in the Lloydminster, SK area on and around a client site.
Working Conditions
  • Typical work shift is based on a 9/80 work schedule but subject to changes due to migratory season
  • Working mainly outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions
  • Working in around the facility
  • Working in and around noise and dust
  • Steel-toed safety boots will be required
  • Overtime as required
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Senior Wildlife Technician in ensuring site is prepared for and conducting migratory bird activities as permitted under the Migratory Bird Permit,.
  • Assist in monitoring feral bird populations to determine food sources, roosting, breeding locations, removing birds from undesirable locations, monitoring exclusion method effectiveness; maintenance of the sites Artificial Breeding Facilities (ABF) and traps.
  • Works in consultation with the Senior Wildlife Technician, ensuring all implemented and proposed control methods are approved, documented and reported.
  • Ensure areas outside of numbered process operating areas are clean and monitored for noxious weed growth.
  • Position requires personnel to understand facility hazards, utilize hazing tools safely and effectively, be adaptable to changing environments, priorities and resources.
  • Work collaboratively with various Cenovus personnel and outside contractors.
Qualifications
  • Oilfield Wildlife First Responder Training would be an asset
  • Basic Wildlife Rehabilitation would be an asset
  • Familiarity of hazards associated with Industrial Sites, ponds and other sensitive areas.
  • Willingness to administer various lethal and non lethal control methods
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction and follow through on instructions
  • Positive attitude to safety
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude

  • Willing to join the Local 180 union

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Drug and Alcohol testing required for site access
Physical Requirements
  • Physical ability to lift up to 30lbs frequent; occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance
  • Stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects
  • Safety equipment will be required, fire retardant apparel, safety glasses/goggles, hard hat, hearing protection and gloves to be provided
Compensation and Benefits
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience
  • Overtime is compensated per the Local 180 collective agreement
