Some of what you will do:
Supervises and schedules driver activities to ensure that all orders are delivered the next day; proof-of-deliveries and customer signatures are obtained; returns are picked up and proper documentation completed.

Specifically, You Will:
  • Develops work schedules by determining driver workload based on number of drivers, number of deliveries and pickups.
  • Downloads daily delivery confirmations from driver’s MPOD. Review delivery manifests with driver for verification against deliveries scheduled on a daily basis.
  • Initiates personnel action and is able to provide clear, effective, timely and constructive feedback to employees, peers and management. Responsible for training, hiring, disciplining and terminating drivers.
  • Provides direction to drivers on specific objectives and measures day-to-day goals and results. Keeps timesheets and personnel records.
  • Assesses driver productivity on a daily basis and on occasion ride along with driver to assess route issues. Assess root cause to determine if delivery needs to be assigned to a different route or driver discipline and/or coaching needs to happen to resolve problem.
  • Creates daily report that outlines number of driver stops, pickups, desktop deliveries, package count, and mileage. Prepares and generates reports as needed for operations management.
  • Coordinates delivery of rush orders, special orders with LTL, line-haul, or common carriers. Coordinates the special handling of large outbound orders. Coordinates mid-directed merchandise to correct route and pick-up of returned merchandise.
  • Researches and implements fixes for undelivered packages and note reasons in computer system.
  • Serves as the contact person for driver accidents. Promptly completes accident reports for all incidents, both vehicle and employee.
  • Tracks vehicle tags and road permits for all company vehicles.
  • Pages drivers to obtain delivery status to notify customer service and/or sales personnel.
  • Manages driver clock in and clock out times. Performs driver check in/return processes.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety. Encourages safe work behaviors, and promptly corrects conditions and unsafe behaviors which may lead to accidents.
  • Implements and observes all organizational and operating policies and practices.
  • Provides input to the annual budget process for the department.
  • May occasionally deliver and unload product at customer facility.

Some of what you need:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience with delivery routes, and warehouse operations; or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. Previous lead and/or supervisory experience preferred.
  • May occasionally perform delivery duties, thus must have a valid driver’s license; can read and speak the English language sufficient to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Good knowledge of metro area.
  • Prefer experience driving lightweight trucks.
  • Prior experience with hand truck/dolly type equipment.
  • Knowledge of delivery routes, products, and warehouse operations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Can demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills
  • Personal computer knowledge of various software programs
  • Supervisory skills
  • Must have the ability to provide guidance, work direction and to motivate others to obtain improved performance.
