Summary

Developer tools is at the core of everything Apple does. Our Cloud Services group provides industry-leading tools to develop software for Apple’s innovative iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS platforms. Our software is used to increase the productivity of millions of developers and create high quality applications for the billions of Apple customers worldwide. We’re passionate about tools that enable better software engineering practices including code reviews, testing, CI, deployment automation, release engineering and operations.
The infrastructure engineering team builds the foundational components that our developer tools are built on. We are looking for a passionate and hardworking leader to help us build our SRE team. Our services have to scale globally, stay highly available and “just work”. If you love designing, engineering and running systems and infrastructure that will help millions of developers, this team is the place for you! Relevant industry experience is important but we are ultimately interested in your demonstrated abilities and attitude.
This position is full-time and located in our Vancouver, BC, Canada office.


Key Qualifications

Track record of building and running high-performance teams

Experience with distributed systems in a production operations environment

Good systems level understanding of Linux and TCP/IP fundamentals. macOS a plus. HTTP/S knowledge preferred.

Experience shell scripting and coding in higher-level languages like Go, Python, Java, plus experience with git. Experience learning software, frameworks and APIs. Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) is a plus.

Familiarity with microservices architecture and modern container orchestration with Kubernetes, Mesos, or equivalent technologies. Knowledge of cloud platforms and virtualization technologies.

Experience in managing, instrumenting, and scaling multi-tier web-services infrastructure in a public, private or hybrid cloud environment. Troubleshooting experience is important.

Involvement with incident management and response. Experience with chaos engineering, scale testing and/or disaster recovery would be a plus.

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple business and technical teams

Experience with DevOps tools, processes, and culture

Demonstrated ability to deliver solutions that are easily maintainable, understandable, and diagnosable

Able to write clear and consumable documentation

Experience managing customer-facing systems in a high uptime 24-7 environment

Passionate about leading a global 24-7 engineering organization

Lifelong learner who fosters diversity of thought in their approach to management


Description

We are looking for a Senior Manager who will shape the future of the Developer Tools SRE team by being both a product centric and engineering minded leader! You will be responsible for the quality of the customer experience in production and in the ideation, design, and development of what’s to come. You will have a proven ability to solve problems whether they require a rapid response or a long term strategy. You will know when to make a critical decision or gain cross functional consensus.
Responsibilities will include:
• Building and managing SRE teams to engage with development teams for production operations

• Building software and systems to manage infrastructure and applications through automation. Deployment, support and monitoring of existing and new services, platforms, and application stacks

• Play a leading role in cross-functional initiatives related to release engineering, system optimization, incident management.

• Capacity planning and management

• Explore and evaluate new technologies and solutions to push our capabilities forward and solve tomorrow’s problems not just today’s


Education & Experience

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
