Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Medical Laboratory Technical Specialist performs analyses and procedures offered by the division using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques. The Laboratory Technical Specialist must have the capability to conduct all aspects of procedural and instrument troubleshooting, method evaluation, establishment and maintenance of quality assurance and safety programs, as well as interpret the technical acceptability of test results. The Laboratory Technical Specialist demonstrates supervisory skills and has some administrative responsibilities in designated areas of the division. Working conditions include exposure to chemicals on a daily basis. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times as deemed essential by the Medical Laboratory Technologist Code of Conduct.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with CSMLS and current licensure with the NSCMLT required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive laboratory experience required.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems is required. Experience with the Meditech information system is preferred.
  • Experience in training of laboratory staff and/or students is preferred. Development of a training schedule for staff and/or students would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge and working experience with Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Experience in obtaining, correlating, and presenting data to management is an asset.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all health care information is required.
  • Demonstrated participation in relevant and current continuing education and upgrading of skills required.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills including respect for staff, other providers, clients/patients and others required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Evidence of effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, problem solve and work under pressure of time limitations is required.
  • Good practical technique with manual dexterity required.
  • Previous work attendance may be considered.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Permanent, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
