What’s this position about?

The Senior Communication Officer is responsible for leading YESAB’s Communication Strategy and providing a full range of communication services. The Senior Communication Officer provides strategic advice and leadership related to communications to support YESAB and its participants and to ensure continuing public awareness of issues pertaining to the assessment program.

What will I be doing?

You will be contributing to the enthusiastic and lively work culture of YESAB and will be located in the Whitehorse Head Office. As the Senior Communication Officer, you will be responsible for developing and distributing accurate media context and ensuring that communication reaches the desired target audiences. This position significantly contributes to the public’s understanding of YESAB’s assessment processes and procedures.

The Senior Communication Officer is responsible for:
  • Leading the development and implementation of YESAB’s Communication Strategy and managing the corporate communication vision.
  • Leading the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to social media and online communications.
  • Researches, writes, and edits a broad range of communications products to increase public awareness of assessments, the assessment process, YESAA, and YESAB.
  • Plans, develops, and implements communications plans for specific assessments, including support for public meetings, hearings, and technical advisory committees.
  • Designs and executes public education or awareness campaigns and liaises with First Nations to support effective participation in the assessment process.
  • Provides communication and media relations services to YESAB’s Senior Management, Management, Executive Director and Board.
What knowledge, skills and abilities do I need for this role?

Having a degree in Business Communication, Communication Studies, Corporate Communication, Public Relations or similar degree, with strong knowledge of communication development methods and techniques, as well as experience in advertising or public relations is required.

Strong analytical and synthesis skills, written and oral communication skills (including plain language writing), as well as confidence in making public presentations will contribute to the success of this position. Experience in graphic design, including knowledge of government and industry standards for graphic design files, is a strong preference to excel and support the collective YESAB team.
