The Opportunity:

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a Senior Administrative Assistant to support the Human Resources Department. The HR Senior Administrative Assistant provides administrative support and coordination at a senior level to the Human Resources Manager. The Senior Administrative Assistant ensures that the Manager is supported in a manner that allows for the strategic use of their time through the effective management of administrative support and coordination.

This position involves a variety of administrative tasks ranging from organizing and meeting coordination to researching issues and drafting reports or correspondence. This position is involved in and handles highly sensitive and confidential human resources, employee, and labour relations information, a strong knowledge of and application of privacy legislation and confidentiality is fundamental to the role.

As our preferred candidate, you will have:

  • Successful completion of a two-year diploma from a recognized college in Office Administration or Business Administration or a Certified Canadian Administrative Professional designation. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 3 years of experience in a senior level administrative role with similar responsibilities.
  • Administrative experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Excellent editing, developing and formatting skills in written documentation, presentations, reports, etc.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical thinking.
  • Demonstrated alignment with The City’s cornerstone values: Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence.
  • Exceptionally strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise a high degree of initiative and judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information with integrity and respect and in accordance with legislation, policy and confidentiality agreements.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency, while dealing with competing priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work with little direction and manage diverse subject matters.
    Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Advanced level ability to utilize common business software (e.g. Microsoft Office suite and financial applications) and the ability to quickly learn and adopt new or different software.
  • Demonstrated desire for self-improvement.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.

Remuneration:

$28.55 to $35.69 per hour

Hours of Work:

75 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday.

Additional Information:

Term End: December 31, 2023 (possibility of extension if the incumbent has not returned prior to this date).
