The role
SPM Oil & Gas currently has an opening for a Senior Accountant. The role will involve independently performing staff level accounting functions that deal with accounting issues of normal complexity that support business processes and provide further experience with Caterpillar accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities Including but not limited to:
- Have a comprehensive understanding of Caterpillar’s business and accounting practices, systems and procedures;
- Apply accounting knowledge and provide guidance on accounting issues
- Participate on and lead teams
- Review various outputs for reasonableness and advise other accountants. Incumbent works on challenging, medium to high risk issues and makes business decisions and recommendations as appropriate. Work is supported by a supervisor primarily through review of results.
- Possible areas of responsibility are varied, including:
- Conduct financial accounting including preparation of journal entries, financial statements, variance analysis, and account reconciliations
- Oversee inventory accounting and standard cost revision
- Complete payroll and benefit accounting
- Conduct intercompany reconciliation and analysis
- Develop development and maintenance of internal controls, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control documentation
- Other possible areas of support include: Inventory Accounting & Plant Support, Sales / Cost of Sales Accounting, General Ledger / Legal Entity Reporting & Analysis, Capital Assets Accounting, Financial Systems, and SOX Compliance
Basic Qualifications
- 4-year degree, preferably in accounting. Non-accounting degree requires minimum 18 hours of college level accounting or approved Accounting certification.
- 2-4 years of accounting experience
- Must have proven record of strong initiative, leadership, accountability and effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of local statutory accounting, currency, and tax and trade controls are desired.
- Sales and use tax and VAT compliance
- Sales tax audit support
