Department: Oakville Hospital Volunteer Association – Gift Shop

Status:Temporary Part Time for approximately 1 year

Hours: Monday to Sunday - Days & Evenings; Various rotating 7.5 hour shifts; 0900-1700 and 1000-1800; (hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)

Positions Overview:

Under the direction and supervision of Retail Manager for the Gift Shop & Convenience the Retail Associate is responsible for providing the day to day operational support in the Gift Shop & Convenience store (International News-INS) while promoting profitability and customer satisfaction.

Responsible to work with the Retail Manager to ensure team work and collaboration

  • Work alongside Volunteers to ensure customer service, engagement and profitability.
  • Use Point of Sale for both INS and Gift Shop, OLG terminal, troubleshoot when needed.
  • Making calls to OLG, Chase, VT, Smart Vendor when necessary to solve issues
  • Assist in daily business needs including ticketing merchandise, resetting the floor and special events as determined by the Manager.
  • Assist the Manager in daily updates to word, excel and power point assignments, includes sending emails and contacting merchants
  • Follow open and close procedures and daily reporting.
  • Training new volunteers, OLG, Smart Vendor and VT POS systems
  • Stock coolers and shelves in INS and merchandise in Gift shop,
  • Maintaning cleanliness of Gift Shop and INS Market
  • Assist in maintaining organized stockrooms, store merchandising, products are accounted for and displayed appropriate to optimize sales.
  • Constant communication with Manager and Volunteers to ensure sales targets are met , bring product ideas back to Manager.

This is what you’ll need to do it:

  • 1-2 Years of Retail Experience is preferred but not mandatory
  • Strong knowledge of computer programs such as, Excel, Word, Power point, Point of Sale systems
  • Goal oriented ability to stay focused on creating winning results
  • Excellent time management
  • Experience working with volunteers would be a strong asset
  • Excellent communications both verbal and written, interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to manage and engage in a volunteer based working environment
  • Hours/days of work may vary due to the demands of the business must be available during hours of operations.
