We are excited about expanding our professional nursing teams and would like to invite Registered Nurses (RN) who are interested in working to their full scope of practice on our adult acute mental health units at the Alberta Hospital Edmonton site to apply on the casual positions that are currently available with the Staffing Service Center. Successful applicants will be provided with an enriched and expanded orientation, non-violent crisis intervention training and ongoing coaching. Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary collaborative care team (as envisioned by the AHS CoACT framework) in accordance with the Edmonton Zone Addiction and Mental Health Program’s Principles of Care and Alberta Health Services’ values. Reporting to the Relief Team Program Manager and as a member of the collaborative interdisciplinary team, the RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care and practices to full scope as defined by the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic computer and email skills required. The successful candidate should also demonstrate: Strong interpersonal, organizational and assessment skills. Strong verbal communication skills (English language proficiency is required). Congruent non-verbal communication skills. Active listening skills. Demonstrated ability to practice in a recovery oriented and trauma informed manner. Working knowledge of patient and family centered are principles. Ability to work independently while maintain collaboration with team members. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team. Ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and work conditions. Accountability, critical thinking, time management and communication skills. Ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise within initiative and self-directedness. Sound self-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in an adult acute practice setting is preferred. Experience working within the CoACT framework is preferred. Charge Nurse experience is preferred. Experience working with persons with significant mental illness and/or addictions is preferred.
