Regional Equipment Manager – Fleet & Supply Chain |Central Alberta & Kootenay

An exciting opportunity exists at Mainroad Ontime Sales & Leasing (Corporate Fleet) for a self-motivated individual to join our team as our Regional Equipment Manager.

Ontime Sales and Leasing (Corporate Fleet) provides Fleet and Equipment support to over 2000+ Assets across 18 Operating Companies in BC & AB within the Mainroad Group.Mainroad Group is an employee owned company recognized as a leader in providing innovative, safe and reliable maintenance, products and construction services for civil infrastructure across Canada.

Overview:

This position provides leadership, planning, organization, direction, coordination and monitors financial performance to meet operational & regulatory needs as they relate to Fleet Assets within the Region. This is a full-time permanent salary position based out of Mainroad’s Central Alberta Offices (Red Deer, Ponoka or Calgary), AB and will report to and be mentored by the Fleet Operations Manager.

Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Daily Operations

  • Leadership and oversight of day-to-day operations of all aspects of Fleet Services in Central & Southern Alberta and East Kootenay’s, BC.
  • Provide technical support in diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance programs to maximize asset availability.
  • Monitor and supervise the maintenance of all equipment
  • Direct the work of the Fleet team in conjunction with the Trades Supervisor(s) through Internal and External resources by assigning and prioritizing scheduled work, coaching, training and performance management when appropriate, while maintaining performance standards and checking results.
  • Communicate with other departments to ensure a coordinated approach to project/initiative identification.
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of a variety of reports, support information, and documentation management. This will include reports related to safety audits, Pre-trip Inspections, preventative maintenance and inspection (PMIs), fuel management and asset utilization through Mainroad’s Fleet Management program.
  • Provide oversight of 3rd Party Repairs, Part Procurement & Inventory Management leveraging regional supply base for timely and cost-effective solutions.

Strategy, Planning, Analysis, Administration

  • Develop short and long range plans for Fleet Services to include life cycle analysis of assets, identify business needs and ensure maintenance programs exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Abide by and comply with provincial (CVSE) and/or federal transportation regulations (NSC) and support relevant aspects of audits and protocols.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Assist and / or develop budget forecasts, monitoring and expenditures in conjunction with the Fleet Operations Manager.

Leadership and People Management

  • Supervise Mechanical Supervisors and the fleet teams within Central & Southern Alberta and East Kootenay’s, BC with an emphasis on efficiency, accuracy, productivity, quality and safety to ensure superior customer service.
  • Oversee the general supervision of critical fleet assets in conjunction with the Mechanical Supervisors.
  • Participates in the compensation planning, recruitment, and training and development of fleet teams.
  • Build a team environment through continual mentoring, coaching and recognition.
  • Ensure fleet employee activities are conducted according to OH&S Legislation and WCB AB / Work Safe BC Policies and procedures at all times, ensuring the protection and safety of self, co-workers, the public and the environment.

The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • Post-secondary education in the areas of project management, office administration, or a closely related field and/or equivalent experience in a related field(s), is required.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in highway maintenance, construction, or a closely related field is required.
  • Alberta Certificate of Qualification, and/or Interprovincial Ticket as a Mechanic is an asset (Heavy Equipment Technician is preferred).
  • Clean Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Excellent proficiency in computer systems, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), Automated Vehicle Location Services (AVLS) / Telematics, garage management systems for work orders & parts inventory management.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize various projects.
  • Strong learning agility and a willingness to continually learn and develop.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a “company-first” mentality and dedication to Mainroad.
  • Results-focused with a proven ability to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently with little or no supervision and as a team player.
  • Experience building and enhancing working relationships with key clients and internal customers.
  • Proven ability to take initiative, demonstrate creativity and produce outstanding work.
  • Knowledge of Fleet Management Systems & Procedures and accounting systems to track vehicle expenses in fuel, maintenance & repairs, warranty claims and motor vehicle incidences (MVI’s).
  • Skilled at building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to worksites within Central & Southern Alberta and East Kootenay’s, BC.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours as needed.
