Position Summary:
Parking Assistants are members of the Parking Services team, working closely with the Parking Compliance Coordinator to ensure privilege/permit compliance within designated parking areas at the University of Regina (Main Campus, College Avenue Campus & TD Facility).

They help allow all users of campus parking to have a positive experience, be able to successfully navigate the campus’, and follow the Parking Bylaws to ensure the equitable and safe use of the available parking resources at the University of Regina.

The primary functions of Parking Assistants includes:
  • Patrolling campus parking areas according to designated routes to ensure parking compliance to the rules and regulations associated with the University Parking Bylaws;
  • Responsibly handle and safely maneuver the Parking Compliance monitoring vehicles at all times; maintain cleanliness of the vehicles;
  • Effectively utilize the License Plate Recognition (LPR) and handheld devices in order to evaluate the accuracy of ‘hits/alerts’ that are reported by the software when conducting compliance rounds;
  • Ensure all citations issued are accurate, complete, and recorded successfully within AIMS for further citation administration to be executed by the Parking Services team;
  • In the event that a citation is escalated to trial within the Provincial Bylaw Court system, the Parking Assistant who issued the citation, will be required to appear in Provincial Bylaw Court;
  • Clearly and concisely outline the details associated with the citation issued in order to present the facts to the Court while under oath;
  • Assist the Parking Services Facilities Maintenance team to collect the funds deposited in pay stations and meters when required;
  • Complete and submit University of Regina Health & Safety/Campus Security Incident reports for any emergency situations or accidents for which they were a witness to on campus;
  • Assist the Parking Services Facilities Maintenance team to ensure that accurate and sufficient informational and directional signage is in place throughout campus, ensuring smooth traffic flows, and safe vehicle operation;
  • Provide traffic directional support during scheduled campus events when Parking Services support is requested and scheduled by Campus Security and/or within lot areas when Parking Services needs arise;
  • Respond to malfunctioning parking equipment calls in order to assist any vehicles/users in entering/exiting parkades, operating pay stations, etc.; report issues to the appropriate Parking Services teams so that corrective action may be taken;
  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with dress code, according to the prevailing weather conditions; and.
  • Assess situations and notify services such as Campus Security, Emergency Medical Services, Regina Police Services, by following the documented escalation processes based upon the situation.
Position Requirements
Position Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled and registered in a program of study at the University of Regina (or one of its Federated Colleges); full-time student preferred;
  • Must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 65%;
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s license;
  • Experience working in a customer service role;
  • Experience working in a security compliance setting, is an asset;
  • Required to work assigned schedule of shifts (some weekend/nights as required in association with campus events and/or Student Affairs Operations activities); demonstrated comfort in working independently after-hours;
  • Must provide a current police record check prior to starting employment;
  • Strong critical thinking skills and demonstration of sound judgement in the event of an emergency and/or crisis;
  • Demonstrate positive, high-quality, customer service oriented attitude;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to manage situations where conflict may escalate; ability to confidently de-escalate a situation and/or implement procedures to contact Campus Security for support;
  • Awareness and ability to work with a culturally diverse community
  • Must satisfactorily complete the job orientation and training program; and,
  • Demonstrate understanding of the bylaws in order to consistently and accurately issue citations as required to be in compliance with Provincial Bylaw Court, as per the Parking Bylaws and training provided.
Physical Demands
  • Must be in good physical condition to complete patrols on foot; requires walking significant distances each shift.
  • Must be able to work in a seated position for extended periods of time while operating the compliance monitoring vehicles.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50lbs in order to install various types of Parking signage.
Pay Grade CUPE Phase 1 Salary Range $15.67 Hourly Status Term Work Hours
  • Shift coverage is required daily Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 11:00pm; Saturday – Sunday between 8:00am – 9:00pm.
  • Additional shifts may be available on evenings and weekends, depending on scheduled campus activities.
  • Shift assignments will vary; maximum of 20 hours per week during Fall academic term (minimum number of hours is not guaranteed).
