Position title

Occupational Therapist (OT)

Description

Reporting to the Director of Quality & Resident Care, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for assessments and therapeutic interventions for residents referred by the RN/DQRC. The Occupational Therapist also serves as a resource and educator for quality improvement and risk management activities.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in the organizational goals of the facility. Carries out tasks an daily work following the procedures and standards of Glen Haven Manor
  • Is knowledgeable of the fire regulations and emergency plan and is aware of the responsibilities in emergency situations.
  • Assesses referred residents including those with orthopedic and neurologic conditions.
  • Identifies problems and goals for referred residents. Formulates a treatment plan and communicates this plan to the Director of Quality and Resident Care.
  • Modifies and revises the treatment plan as required.
  • Completes and maintains progress notes. Completes reports for DVA WCB or the Department of health. Ensures the appropriate approvals for funding are in place prior to ordering equipment.
  • Consults and communicates with nursing and medial personnel and outside resources to meet the resident’s needs.
  • In-serves facility staff as necessary to implement recommendations on enhanced care plans.
  • Orders and obtains equipment that is required for therapeutic purposes, i.e., wheelchairs, Geri-chairs, etc.

  • Other duties as required.
Skills And Abilities
  • Maintenance of confidentiality, concern a resident, employee and organizational data and information.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, and in a positive courteous manner;
  • Show sound professional judgement and initiative as an active member of the health care team;
  • Willingness to learn and apply new concepts in the clinical fields of health care knowledge;
  • Ability to work harmoniously with residents and staff.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a recognized school of Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration and current member in good standing with the The College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS). https://cotns.ca/
  • Experience in a long-term care facility preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
