Your Opportunity

In this role, you will apply buildings mechanical engineering principles, your superior client service skills, and project management best practices to deliver a wide range of projects that meet project requirements, exceed client expectations, and meet project financial objectives.

Our Regina office has an immediate need for a Mechanical Engineer with proven design skills and practical experience applying Canadian Standards, mature understanding of Engineering principals, strong interest in healthcare, focus on client management, and desire to be involved in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Working within our thriving buildings engineering practice, you will help shape the communities we live and work in and support the mission of our clients to provide the best in project delivery. You will welcome opportunities and challenges within a diverse project offering and bring consulting skills into each client interaction. You will add value while helping differentiate Stantec from other firms and position us as a top tier design firm in the industry.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Successfully manage a diverse cross-section of buildings related mechanical engineering projects and tasks of a scope, complexity, and revenue budget appropriate to experience.
  • Apply buildings engineering and project management knowledge while leading resources to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budgets.
  • Share knowledge with others by serving as a teacher, mentor, and resource.
  • Hold project team members accountable for deliverables.
  • Meet technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary, and client service objectives.
  • Apply strong mechanical engineering skills, experience and knowledge to the design and oversight of the design for building projects.
  • Manage and plan the production resources and workflow to produce the design documentation, drawings, and calculations required for mechanical engineering projects.
  • Nurture existing client relationships and proactively pursue opportunities for new business.
  • Develop and deliver project related client presentations.
  • Maintain and expand current knowledge of technologies and trends as they apply to the applicable project and market types and continually strengthen skills.
  • Attend and lead in-house project meetings.
  • Actively participate in meetings, initiatives, and projects that support the practice and firm-wide goals.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience in the delivery of commercial, light industrial and healthcare projects; designing HVAC, medical gas, life safety, physical plant, building management systems, and plumbing systems for the built environment.
  • Client consulting experience.
  • Understanding and implementing the principles of project management.
  • Ability to manage clients, projects, fees, scope, and teams to achieve budget, schedule, and deliverable objectives while meeting key stakeholder critical success factors.
  • Fundamental understanding of the relevant buildings engineering codes and standards as they specifically apply to commercial, light industrial and healthcare facilities.
  • Familiarity with and ability to produce project-related documents and documentation standards.
  • Ability to integrate mechanical design elements with other engineering and architectural disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.
  • Familiarity with and ability to apply sustainable design principles.
  • Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to structure concepts and ideas into projects.
  • Knowledge and experience to identify and manage items of risk that may occur on projects.
  • Knowledge and experience to identify and manage potential unanticipated scope.
  • Functional knowledge of BIM software, in particular Revit MEP.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field plus 10 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Registered Professional Engineer in Canada is required. Project management experience is essential, with an ability to manage work in a team-oriented environment. An individual with experience in healthcare design is preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
