About the role


Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Manager, Integrated Business Planning to join our dynamic People, Culture and Performance team. In this role, you will manage and guide the organization in the successful execution and improvement of the monthly and quarterly integrated business planning activities. Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is a decision-making process to align strategy, portfolio, demand, supply and resulting financials through a focused planning process.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with business line directors and other business leads across the organization to ensure the data and information required at each IBP process step is available, and with the appropriate level of detail to drive discussions and decisions.
  • Lead the continuous improvements of the corporate IBP process to achieve higher levels of maturity.
  • Architect the quarterly executive business review (EBR) meeting, ensuring key discussions and decisions specific to the fiscal quarter are incorporated, including strategy and operational performance, risk performance, and medium-long term planning approvals.

Integrated Business Planning (IBP) Process:

  • Manage the corporate IBP process cycle (product portfolio review, demand review, supply review, financial review, and executive business review) for all business lines in scope of the process.
  • Manage and communicate the schedule of IBP review meetings and ensure integration with other corporate activities (e.g., reporting to the Board of Directors, corporate plan development, other interactions with Provinces and Territories).
  • Identifies risks and issues to executing the IBP process, works with the Director, Strategy Management to resolve roadblocks and escalate to the appropriate VP as required.
  • Act as secretariat for any IBP review committees which require support and maintain the repository for process documentation.

Executive Business Review (EBR):

  • Manage and design the quarterly Executive Business Review (EBR) process, meeting, and dialogue. This includes strategy and operational performance, risk performance, and medium- and long-term planning approvals.
  • Create and refine the EBR agenda with key business contributors, coordinate and communicate the schedule and receipt of information which will be included in the meeting package, and ensure information meets the discussion and decision-making requirements.
  • Communicate the outcome of the meeting including actions, decisions, and key messages for EMT and senior leaders.

Integrated Business Planning (IBP) Process Improvements:

  • Lead the continuous improvement of the IBP process in collaboration with business line directors and other business leads, maintain and execute against the IBP continuous improvement and maturity plan.
  • Broaden and refine the scope of process inputs and outputs, improve communications, and target approvals at the appropriate level of governance. This will require influencing the activities of planning teams to ensure IBP process requirements are met.
  • Provide IBP training and education sessions to individuals, teams, and senior executives.
  • Lead regular discussions of the IBP working group. Become fluent in corporate strategy and business line strategies and objectives and translate into desired outcomes for IBP.


Education, Training and Experience:

  • University degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution. A Master’s degree is an asset.
  • 7+ years applicable experience (combined experience within supply chain, planning, S&OP and IBP is preferred).
  • Understanding of end-to-end supply chain interactions and interdependencies.
  • IBP training and/or certification is desirable.
  • Demonstrated project or program management experience. Certification is a plus.
  • Experience in process redesign, or lean manufacturing.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or medical industry.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing senior leaders across various areas of responsibility to achieve a common goal.
  • Highly motivated and self-managed with the ability to balance multiple priorities and multiple customer needs.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills and ability to interpret information clearly and accurately to concisely communicate results and recommendations to stakeholders, senior management, and their teams.
  • Strong negotiation and management by influence skills with the ability to drive results through a matrix structure.
  • Excellent business acumen, technical knowledge within multiple business units.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide recommendations and lead change.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal direction.
  • Customer-focused, highly-trusted, very effective influencer at all levels.
  • Ability to conduct business professionally and collaboratively at all levels of an organization from front-line staff, directors and with the EMT.
