The Role

The Investments team helps asset owners across the world solve their investment problems. We offer a range of services across different delivery models, spanning investment consulting, Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO), investment funds and analytics & tools, all structured to provide investors access to best-in-class ideas and the opportunity to meet their long-term investment goals.

As Associate Director, Growth, your mandate will be to support driving the growth of our Investments business by assisting clients in developing sustainable investment solutions, connecting client demand with our intellectual capital and driving greater penetration of our services in the Canadian institutional investment market, with special emphasis on pension plans, and endowment and foundations. In doing so, you and the Growth team will assess the market needs and ensure we have the right services and solutions to improve clients’ outcomes.

The role will require collaboration with various stakeholders across the Investments business, as well as Growth teams from other businesses to ensure we are leveraging existing relationships and bringing the best of WTW to existing and prospective clients.

Success in your role will be to contribute to profitable, sustainable growth in Canada across services/solutions, while supporting the goal of business diversification (e.g., by delivery model/client type), and being an active, contributing team player. You will report to the Head of Growth, Canada.

Responsibilities:

Client Focus:

  • Support the development and execution of an integrated go-to market strategy which spans all of our Investments services and solutions across internal channels, which includes other Lines of Businesses, and external channels in the broader market
  • Build strong and sustainable relationships with relevant market influencers
  • Listen to the needs of the market and participate in the development of new services and solutions as appropriate to address the market need
  • Maintain a keen understanding of the competitive dynamics for our services and solutions
  • Prepare the collation of relevant management information with analyst support
  • Promote and maintain a culture of business development discipline which will drive a sustainable pipeline
  • Lead the pursuit processes, partnering with other WTW colleagues
  • Act as a product specialist for WTW Investment services and solutions and participate in client meetings as required

Teamwork:

Excellence:

  • Support the development of a brand and collateral strategy in conjunction with content and marketing teams
  • Ensure that prospect meetings and pitches are properly planned for and rehearsed, maximizing our win rates
  • Develop sufficient subject matter expertise across our solutions to lead prospect meetings, including finalist pitches, to generate interest in our solution and close new business
  • Perform the necessary regulatory steps to onboard new investment fund clients (KYC), assist clients with the timely completion of subscription materials (subscription forms, tax forms, etc.) and maintain such documentation up to date

Financial:

  • Deliver on new business goals
  • Build a sustainable, multi-year, pipeline which supports our business diversification goals
  • Conduct risk: To put the interests of clients and the integrity of the market at the heart of the way you do business

The Requirements

We expect the successful candidate to drive opportunities through WTW’s internal channels, and external channels in the broader market. This will involve coordinating internal resources, identifying prospects, presenting our services and solutions, organizing meetings/presentations/training and finalist pitches.

We welcome candidates with a broad range of experiences and career backgrounds; you will be supported to apply your skills and experience to this role.

  • Suitable relevant experience preferably including business development and/or growth responsibility in the investment industry
  • Sales experience working with a range of different client types (e.g., large, small, DB, DC, endowments, foundations, family offices etc.) and across service models (e.g., advisory, OCIO, funds)
  • Display of business development skills, including collaboration, presentation/pitching skills, client/colleague empathy and adaptability
  • Minimum investment experience: 7 years
  • Exempt Market Dealer or Associate Advising Representative license; alternatively, the candidate’s eligibility to get registered will be considered
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Designation or Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) Designation
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and French for all candidates residing in Quebec

WTW is committed to finding opportunities to foster flexibility in the workplace, whenever business and client demands allow. The preferred location for the role is in one our key markets in Canada (Toronto or Montreal) but we will consider alternative locations. This role requires either a hybrid or an office work style.
