Job Description

Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity.

They are currently looking for anInternal Auditorfor their Burnaby location.

Background

The Reliability Standards Assurance Business Unit provides oversight for the Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) adopted by the BCUC. The 120 adopted standards cover topics including real-time operations and personnel training, long term transmission system planning, protection system maintenance programs and critical infrastructure protection. Oversight includes strengthening a culture of compliance, minimizing the occurrence of violations and ensuring BC Hydro meets its legal obligations. The role will include evaluating strong internal controls to allow for continuous compliance, communication and training of standard compliance requirements and violation management.

Basic Purpose

Responsible for providing support to Reliability Standards Assurance team leaders in the discharge of their MRS governance responsibilities by conducting effective assessment of risk and evaluation of reliability compliance internal controls, operational methods within a control environment concept and broad risk assessment model.

Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Plans, develops and manages an operational/MRS assurance engagement strategy for an assigned organization unit that includes studying, analyzing and reporting on a number of control objectives such as: compliance with MRS and internal policies; operational effectiveness and efficiency; training; and reliability of internal and external reporting.
  • Develops an operational/MRS assurance engagement plan for an assigned organization unit that supports the assurance engagement strategy by prioritizing assurance engagement work through risk assessment.
  • Acts as project manager in the delivery of assurance engagement services by defining and obtaining resources; scheduling assurance engagements to meet plan requirements; monitoring assignment progress and reporting results; ensuring that the level of assurance engagement service recognizes business group/unit and managerial needs.
  • Prepares, presents and discusses operational/MRS assurance engagement results with managers to assist managers in rejecting, avoiding, transferring or reducing controllable and uncontrollable risks to an acceptable level consistent with established operating, financial and compliance objectives.
  • Prepares, presents and discusses assurance engagement findings and reports to and with the Reliability Standards Assurance leadership team.
  • Maintains currency with emerging MRS assurance engagement approaches and methodologies; attends related conferences, seminars, professional associations and other organizations.

Qualifications
  • Must have 8-10 years of professional experience as an Auditor
  • Must have demonstrated experience managing audits in highly regulated industries (eg. Utilities, banking, airlines etc)
  • Must have knowledge of current and emerging audit, engineering, business operations, and management practices.
  • Experience with electrical utilities is an asset
  • Experience with NERC audits/MRS standards is an asset
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification is preferred
