About You

You take your job seriously, consider yourself a people person, and take pride in your ability to build understanding of unfamiliar operations. You have experience in creating training programs and can create health and safety programs. You are knowledgeable in federal and provincial transportation regulations and most importantly, you want to effect change in the organization by continually improving what already exists in the safety program.

The Job

This key individual will be responsible for the direction and facilitation of the Health and Safety Programs for all divisions under the guide of the Operations Manager.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Maintain COR Certification and conduct internal audits as required.
  • Perform incident investigation and ensure all investigations are carried out through to conclusion with recommendations and review.
  • Manage damage claims.
  • Actively manage and stay involved in all WCB claims, including return to work plans and modified duties as necessary.
  • Monitoring and auditing E-Logs for all drivers.
  • Attend Safety meetings and actively participate in work planning processes.
  • Provide input to aid in the identification and development of processes, standards, policies, procedures, and work practices for the work site.
  • Work with the JHSC to ensure questions, concerns, and issues are addressed in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor safety performance and support management in the development of corrective action plans to improve performance to meet and exceed goals.
  • Complete required paperwork and documentation in a timely, neat, and organized fashion.
  • Mentor and influence leadership and work teams to develop their safety essential skills and leadership competencies.
  • Maintain training matrix and ensure record keeping of all training documents.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientations.
  • Aid new employees in completing security checks and applying for unlock licensing.
  • Maintains strong coordination, organization, and communication skills.
  • Strong administrative background.
  • Abide by all policies, procedures, rules, and applicable legislation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • 2+ years of demonstrated success as a Health and Safety Professional.
  • NCSO certificate an asset
  • Clear understanding of OHS Act, Regulation, and Code.
  • COR Audit experience an asset.
  • Knowledge of transportation industry required.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Capacity to lead individuals and teams.
  • Customer Service oriented frame of mind.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
