The Executive Council Office is the centre of excellence for the Government of Yukon. We are leaders in the modernization of government standards and processes. We provide central strategic advice to advance government priorities through policy development, communications, intergovernmental relations, Indigenous relations, major project management, youth initiatives, Indigenous and scientific knowledge science and by supporting the Water Board and the Commissioner’s Office. We also provide direct support to the Premier and Cabinet.

The First Nation Relations Officer is responsible for developing and executing strategies to achieve Government of Yukon’s goals in our engagement with First Nation governments and other governments in Canada. It leads and coordinates the development of strategies, positions, policies, agreements and relationships and provides analytical and advisory support for Yukon’s participation in interdepartmental and intergovernmental agreements, innovative committees and meetings. This position engages and represents Government of Yukon and elected offices to ensure First Nation relations are carried out in a meaningful, coordinated, consistent and effective manner so other governments understand and consider the goals, objectives, positions and circumstances of Yukon.

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in Business or Public Administration, Law, or related field.
  • Significant experience (in the public sector an asset) leading and providing direction, advice and recommendations on complex projects and initiatives involving First Nations, and federal/provincial/territorial governments.
  • Significant experience leading the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of First Nation Relations, governance and capacity development initiatives.
  • Extensive experience working with First Nation governments and organizations.
  • Knowledge of culture, traditions, social history and economic conditions of Yukon First Nations is an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Conditions of Employment: Class 5 drivers licence

Job requirements: Some travel required.
