Evolugen by Brookfield Renewable – Electrical Engineer, Engineering and Technical Services

Evolugen by Brookfield Renewable is looking for an Electrical Engineer with at least five (5) years of full-time work experience in renewable energy or a related field who enjoys multitasking in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to join its Engineering & Technical Services team. This full-time role is an opportunity to be part of a growth-oriented company and to gain experience and understanding of the energy sector.

The incumbent will report to the Director, Engineering & Technical Services, and provide technical support to the company’s growth initiatives.

Location: 41 Victoria St., Gatineau, Quebec

Responsibilities:

• Support financing and acquisition projects:
• Support the technical activities associated with the financing of our assets, namely the management of independent engineers, review of deliverables and coordination with internal stakeholders such as the Operations and Capital Markets teams;
• Support technical due diligence activities in the context of asset acquisition, including management of independent engineers, review of deliverables and interpretation of risks and results.
• Support development projects and other business growth activities:
• Conduct preliminary evaluation of energy production, cost estimates, interconnection and transmission options and risks.
• Project management, including the oversight of external experts and the production of studies and reports to support the technical aspects of project development (e.g. assessment of energy production, construction costs, interconnection and transmission strategies, risks, environmental and regulatory considerations, etc.), while managing a budget and respecting milestones.
• Assist in executing engineering, procurement and construction contracts & awards.
• Continuously expand knowledge and remain up to date on technological advancements and key players in the hydroelectric, wind, solar, energy storage, low-carbon fuels and carbon capture and storage fields.
• Collaborate with a variety of teams such as other internal departments (Project Development, Capital Markets, Operations) and external parties such as lenders, and engineering consulting firms.

Requirements:

• Hold at least five (5) years of full-time technical work experience in renewable energy or a related field,
• Hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and preferably be a member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec, Professional Engineers Ontario, or an equivalent Canadian association;
• Knowledge of the electrical network grid, distribution systems and integration of renewables;
• Knowledge of hydroelectric, wind, solar energy production processes gained through operations, development, or engineering;
• Knowledge of battery energy storage systems;
• Proven project management or coordination skills;
• Ability to coordinate a team of independent engineers;
• Ability to solve problems and to exercise good judgment;
• Effective organizational skills, including the ability to identify priorities and plan work independently while managing competing deadlines;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain positive interpersonal relationships;
• Bilingualism is an asset;
• Excellent communication skills, written and oral
• Excellent computer skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
