The Employment Services Program at Ray of Hope provides trainees with the practical life skills and positive work habits necessary to be successful as they enter the workplace. Trainees are paid while they learn to develop and apply the skills needed to secure and maintain future employment as they work through the 3 phases of the 26 week contract (6 months).
If you are between 15-29 and have experienced barriers to maintaining full-time employment this program may be for you. Successful applicants are hired on as trainees and are paid $15.00/hour based on 35 hours a week for the entire 6-month contract.
Applications are now being accepted to participate in our Employment Skills Training Program. This is a federally funded program, and Service Canada mandates eligibility criteria.
Applications will be accepted until 4pm on Friday February 4, 2022.
The contract starts Monday February 14, 2022 and ends Friday August 12, 2022.
Trainee requirements include:
- Between the ages of 15-29
- Permanent resident of Canada
- Able to commit to the full 6 months of the program (26 weeks)
- Open to personal and professional growth and change
- Trainees may not be enrolled or currently attending any secondary or post-secondary educational programs during the 6-month contract
- Must be fluent in written and verbal English skills
- Able to stand for long periods of time (Phase 2 & 3)
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds
- A general understanding of Canadian currency
- Available to work Monday-Friday 8am-3:30pm (Phase 1& 2)
- Trainees must want to be enrolled in the program
Phase 1:6 Weeksin Class Training
- Learn the 4 pillars of the program; Accountability, Self-Awareness, Communication & Life Skills
- Receive job skills and life skills training that will help to prepare you to enter into the workforce and/or return to school
- Develop your personal and professional skills and strengths
- Learn to write resumes, cover letters and strengthen your interview skills
- Earn certifications in Safe Food Handling, First Aid/CPR, Health and Safety/WHMIS, and Smart Serve (optional)
Phase 2:10 Weeks of Internal Work Placement
- Complete an internal work placement within Ray of Hope in one of three locations: Morning Glory Catering, Morning Glory Café, or within the Community Center
Phase 3:10 Weeksof External Work Placement
- Complete an external work placement with an employer. This will provide you with practical work experience and an opportunity for a permanent position. This placement must be in line with your current work skills, qualifications and abilities
Hours/ Compensation:
- $15.00 per hour
- 35 hours a week
- 6-month contract (26 weeks)
- Financial support for transportation, work clothing, and equipment costs are available as needed
- Food provided during phase 1 and 2 (Breakfast/Lunch)
- Certificate training in Safe Food Handling, First Aid/CPR, Health and Safety/WHMIS, and Smart Serve
