Do you have an interest in homelessness and its root causes and effects? Are you passionate about working with the most vulnerable in our society and would like to be mentored as you learn? We have an opportunity for you! We have openings for Community Liaison Workers (summer internships) and are looking for committed individuals to take on these internship positions.

The Mustard Seed’s Community Engagement team fosters a Christ-centered understanding of poverty and homelessness to transform worldviews and mobilize the community. The team facilitates experiential and educational opportunities for people of all ages to broaden their knowledge of issues surrounding poverty and homelessness.

As a Community Engagement Summer Student, you will be fostering an understanding of poverty and homelessness discussions across the community to help transform worldviews and mobilize our community through action and discussion.

Location: Red Deer

Position Type: Internship

Hourly Rate:$20.00/hour

Schedule:40 hours per week

Reporting to: Managing Director of Central Alberta

Number of Positions to Fill: 2 positions

Start Date Options: June 7 and July 5

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Deliver Community Engagement presentations, as needed
  • Spend most Sunday’s connecting with various local churches across Central Alberta
  • Support the Volunteer Department recruiting volunteers
  • Be an ambassador for The Mustard Seed across the community helping advocate for the need of sober shelter supports
Minimum Qualifications And Skills
  • Completing post-secondary studies in ministry, social work, education, community development, youth and childcare studies, or a related program
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail; strong administration skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to be adaptable and responsive to changing program needs
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills; public speaking skills an asset
  • Experience working with youth in a camp or missions trip setting
  • Passion for fostering a deeper understanding of poverty and homelessness in the community
  • Experience working with marginalized population or in social work an asset
  • Competent with Microsoft Office
  • Self-motivated and capacity to work independently
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This is a fixed-term, full-time (40 hours/week) position for 7 weeks
  • There are 2 positions: Starting on June 7 to July 26 & Starting on July 5 to August 23
  • Evening and weekend work will be required, especially on Sundays in churches
  • Employment Security Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our statement of faith
  • The organizational & administrative component of program development & evaluation is office-based: requiring mental effort, including computer and telephone, as well as lifting for organizing program supplies
Additional Requirements
  • An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to agree to respect and not detract from The Mustard Seed’s Employment Values during their employment at The Mustard Seed.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Eligibility Requirements For Canada Summer Jobs
