Position Summary:
The Carpenter works as part of the crew and offers an intermediate to advanced understanding of carpentry fundamentals in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Areas, where the incumbent will be supporting include: building foundations, installing floor beams, laying sub-flooring and installing walls and roofing systems—fitting and installing trim, doors, stairs, moulding and hardware and measuring, cutting and joining materials made of wood or wood substitutes.

Specific Accountabilities:
1.Safety
The Carpenter supports a safe work culture and is responsible for understanding and accepting the role’s importance and legal liability.
This includes:
- Knowing and understanding the requirements of the OHSA
- Knowing, understanding, communicating and ensuring compliance with the OHSA, and company safety policies and procedures
- Participate in the mandatory safety toolbox meetings
- Ensuring completion of initial safety and hazard assessments
- Participating in safety/incident investigations
- Ensuring that vehicle and equipment checks are carried out
2.Rough Carpentry
The Carpenter will complete all aspects of the rough carpentry or framing, working with many projects outdoors and using unfinished wood and other building materials.
This includes:
· Cut or saw boards, timbers, or plywood to the required size, using a handsaw, power saw, or woodworking machine.
· Assemble and fasten material together to construct the wood or metal framework of the structure, using bolts, nails, or screws.
· Anchor and brace forms and other structures in place, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges, and timbers.
· Erect forms, framework, scaffolds, hoists, roof supports, or chutes, using hand tools, plumb rule, and level.
· Install rough door and window frames, subflooring, fixtures, or temporary supports in structures undergoing construction or repair.
· Examine structural timbers and supports to detect decay and replace timbers as required, using hand tools, nuts, and bolts.
· Bore boltholes in timber, masonry or concrete walls using a power drill.
· Dig or direct digging of post holes and set poles to support structures.
· Build sleds from logs and timbers for use in hauling camp buildings and machinery through wooded areas.
· Build chutes for pouring concrete.
3.Finishing
The Carpenter will support all the work done inside a house after framing, sheathing, wiring, plumbing, insulation and drywall have been installed. This includes door and window installation and trim, fitting interior doors, wood and laminate flooring installation, wainscoting, crown moulding and cabinet installation
This includes:
· Building and installing cabinets, such as kitchen cabinets and under-stair cabinets.
· Install wainscoting, baseboards, door trim, and other final touches.
· Building and installing stair railings
· Installing interior doors such as pocket doors and checking that the doors are aligned correctly and open and close the way they should.
· Building shelves, other storage solutions, and furniture.
4.Reading Blueprints & Plans
The Carpenter is required to visualize the plans from the perspective of the broader project and must be able to accurately interpret the information following the visualization delving into the drawings noting the information pertinent to your scope of work.
This includes:
· Study blueprints and diagrams to determine dimensions of structure or form be constructed.
· Measure materials or distances using square, measuring tape, or rules to layout work.
· Support the Materials Take-Off (MTO) process as required.

Salary: $20.00-$28.00 per hour
